I've just bought and installed Zorin 18 Pro, thinking it was a good idea to quit Windows.
Install all was ok, created ID + PWD, and for no idea why, when I reboot or just restart the PC from sleep mode Zorin can't recognize me, like ID or PWD is false and I'm stucked on the login window.
I've reinstalled the whole stuff once again, same issue....
Last week I installed as a try Mint and worked 100% but Zorin looked "better" (or not).
Did You checked that the right Keyboard Layout is on the Login Screen? And that the Caps Lock Key isn't active? With what Keyboard Layout did You installed Zorin?
Situation is strange let's say. It blocks me time to time and yes layout and PW are correct (I checked with the "eye" icon to reveal the password).
2nd strange thing is last time I was able to reconnect, the welcome screen is not as I configured it before. There's no taskbar at the bottom (I choosed one looking as Win) but one on the top and it looks as a menu for a tablet (yeah sorry for the details don't know how to describe)
I experienced a similar scenario with 18 Core. What I had to do was use the boot media in live mode, use Boot Repair and this then made the GRUB menu appear with default timeout of 10 seconds before booting. I chose the 'Advanced Options' for Zorin 18 and chose 'Recovery Option'.
This boots into a menu item. Use the cursor down arrow to get to the last item to launch a 'Root terminal'. Once you are there, use the same method as you would if you forget your password:
mount -n -o remount,rw
then press Enter, then
passwd your_username
then enter new/same password, shutdown and reboot.
Zoron developers really needs to pull Zorin OS 18 and downgrade the website version back to Zorin OS 17 this version clearly was nowhere ready for release with all these bugs. It does not help the Zorin developers are MIA with no updates on all these bugs.
Thanks guys - I've done all your tips, re-re-reinstalled all the stuff and now I'll see how this goes on but as Toolman said, a such bugged version was not ready to go public. Lucky me I'm a bit geeky so I can understand how things are going but sadly Linux will still stay underground for a majority of people due to its unnecessary complexity
I don't think GNU/Linux is that tricky, but to a non-techy person that might be difficult. While using Windows I would have recommended Rufus because of its differentiation between EFI and mbr options during creation.
Ventoy is advantageous because you can store multiple .isos on one memory stick. I don't use Zorin as my daily driver. It (Ventoy) also has a MOK enrolment key which came in handy when I had to install Linux Mint on a client's Acer notebook that had Windows 10 on it previously.
And in respect of Zorin 18 I have ditched Gnome for Plasma to replicate a Windows 10 feel which Zorin does not have.
I would suggest to try it with Rufus (if You have a Windows Machine) or Ventoy. In both Programs, You can set up the Partitions Sheme directly. So, it fits to Your UEFI BIOS. You should choose GPT for it.
Does this mean, You can now log in again? Does Your System run in Wayland or X11? You can check that with the Command echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE
The only strange bugs I had this morning is 1. the mouse not working after sleep mode and 2. after uninstalling some apps the icons are still visible for no reason (and if I click on them nothing happens).
Then, I would suggest to switch to Xorg and test if Your Mouse works correct then. to do that, go to the Login Screen. Click there on Your Profile so that the Password Field appears. When it is appeared, You should see a Gear Icon in the bottom right Corner. click on it and choose the Option ''Zorin Desktop on Xorg'' and then log in.
It could be that they simply not removed. Open ''Main Menu'' look for the entries and delete them.
