(maybe) not Zorin, but sure Linux

Denmark public sector plans to migrate this year. Away from Microsoft towards Linux. The article does not mention which distro.

Here in Germany they tried that ealier (in Munich). But they switched back. Now one of our States want to go again the Way.

The thing about this is every Time the same: They want do it, they even make it. But: Will it be stand or do they break?

There are different versions of this story. I want to belive in this one:

In November 2013, Microsoft announced that it was moving its German headquarters from UnterschleiĂźheim to Munich-Schwabing. As a result, Microsoft pays business tax to the city of Munich. Manager magazine therefore speculated about a connection between the move and a return to Windows.

I wouldn't be very surprised if they "threatened" to switch to something else in order to gain a better deal. After all, companies like Microsoft can afford it...

But the reasons given for this move in the case of Denmark go a little beyond that, considering the recent tensions with the US. And they're right: a word from the big boss and Denmark's access to critical infrastructure powered by American companies would be cut-off.

The same has happened with the Linux Foundation, based in the US, removing contributors that were located in Russia due the sanctions applied. Before that, access from Iran was also restricted to US-based companies, like GitHub.

So, this does happen, and it doesn't hurt to at least try a few alternatives for a little while until trust is restored.

What's telling from their analytics is that this isn't just a knee-jerk reaction - the engagement metrics show people seriously evaluating options rather than panic-clicking (spending almost 3 minutes on the website).

I'm particularly curious which sectors are seeing the most interest - cloud services? Productivity tools? Communication platforms? That data could help prioritize where European companies should focus innovation efforts.

Still not knowing which path (distro) Denmark will select, but this could be interesting. Proof of concept is done. The idea is to have one base OS and add specific national layers on top.
