The only software that comes close and i have fallen in love with is mailspring
I should point out that quite a number of the complaints I had about Evolution (mostly bugs) have been since resolved - if you're on Zorin and the bundled version of Evolution is driving you crazy, especially when you're using it to hook up Exchange accounts, I recommend uninstalling the bundled version and installing the Flatpak version instead (don't forget you can back up and re-import how you had your previous version configured). The experience has been much better for me since. Aesthetically the app is still out-of-date, but functionality is what matters to me more.
Bear in mind that because of how Flatpak works, you'll lose seeing calendar appointments in the shell and other apps (like gnome-calendar).
Credit for the continued fixes to Evolution goes to Milan Crha whom appears to be the sole active maintainer of the application.
