I have decided that I'll be leaving Zorin behind by the end of the next month.
It's a good looking system but, ever since updating to Zorin 18, the fact that we still have topics about Nautilus freezing, and file manager is a very big part of the system by the way, and never fixed to this point is very upsetting to me.
As an OS that is aimed to help people to move away from Windows, by essentially doing everything Windows does design wise, it's very annoying to see such a core part of the system being unstable.
I've been trying to fix the problem since forever, and it seems the only way to fix it is to disable a core feature of the system which is the Folder coloring. Which is a thing I use quite a lot. I've been testing both Ubuntu and Kubuntu right now to see if they are unresponsive, Ubuntu using Gnome and Nautilus itself, so far, I didn't had a single problem on my laptop, for months there.
As someone who uses my PC mostly for work, having a stable and working system is important and, when I chose Zorin, I did it for these reasons. But honestly "quickly installing Windows programs" as if it was part of the system itself instead of setting up Bottles or Wine may look cool at first, but honestly, I don't think it's worth it.
So yeah, if you're having Nautilus freezing, apparently you can fix it by disabling the Folder Color from the system. Either way, this is just my feedback to Zorin team overall: If you're basing your system on an older LTS ubuntu version, make sure the core features works nicely. I expect stability of an LTS build, sadly that's not what Zorin 18 is giving me, which is a shame.
Zorin 17 is very stable though so there's that. But I also need a more updated kernel for certain software to install (mostly related to 3D printing).
Either way, that's it for now. I'll be moving on from Zorin in a month or so, after choosing what next version I'll be using. Until then, uninstalling the folder color thing will be the only solution it seems.
