Hello, I downloaded zorin os 18 core. I put it onto a USB to try it out and see how well it functions. For my pc, I need easytether for internet, usb to phone. According to easytether website, it should work straight out of the box. The os recognizes my phone, and I can access it just fine. However the os is not recognizing easytether. So, I downloaded the drivers install file.deb, and tried to install it. It would not install. I opened terminal and got it to install that way, however it left the program unconfigured as it requires libssl1.1 to function properly. Researching how to download and install libssl1.1 I found that it has been discontinued and replaced with libssl3. Can someone please tell me if there is a zorin os repository that may have libssl1.1 in it that I can download and install? I contacted easytether about updating their drivers, but am not hopeful. I am very new to Linux and am trying hard to learn as much as possible, but this is a bit confusing.

So correct me if I'm wrong, but is this program used specifically just for tethering your phone internet connection? I didn't know a program for this existed, because most phones offer this functionality by default, well within the last decade at least. What phone are you trying to USB tether? Usually you will have an option in USB settings to select whether you want to tether your phone through usb when it's connected or something else.
Hi, yes it is specifically for tethering. My phone is a 2 year old Samsung s series and must be rooted in order to do what you described, or a high dollar plan is involved. I used to have a note that was rooted, so i know that route. Easytether has always tethered on my unlimited data plan, so I have not had a reason to change. Most verizon phones do not let you tether without a high dollar plan, or having it rooted. Bottom line for me is, where I live, tethering gives me the only internet access I have other than my phone, and verizon is the only provider with signal. On windows, easytether still works, but as I said, I am trying out zorin to see if I can change over to linux, and running into roadblocks.
Easy tether is no more maintained for linux and only available for ubuntu 20.04 and older. Zorin doesn't offer a version wich is still supported with updates and based on ubuntu 20.04. For Zorin 18 you need .deb files for ubuntu 24.04.
Hi, I know. That is why I came here asking if there is a way to add libssl1.1 back in so I can use easytether, or if anyone knows of a workaround. The only info I could find on the internet about adding 1.1 back in, said it may mess things up, so that's why I signed up here and asked.

I have found a Way, You could download it, but to be honest, I don't think that it is such a good Idea ...
It is available in a Debian 11 Repo and You can download it from there. But if it works properly ... Maybe think about another Way for tethering instead. But if You insist to use it, here:
Look there for the File libssl1.1_1.1.1w-0+deb11u1_amd64.deb
But it is at Your own Risk.
Ok, thank you for that, it is at least a start. Could you please explain why you said you don't think it's a good idea? I don't know what all the libssl "package" controls or does, so knowledge is power lol. The only thing my system woul need it for is the one application, I just don't want to mess anything up. I appreciate your help, and insight would be welcome.
Well, it is an old Version. That per se must not be a Problem when it is still supported. But You will not get any Updates for this. So, You would download it as it is. When there are any missing Security and/or Bug Fixes, it will not be fixed. That counts for the actual Program what You want use, too. When the Linux Version of it isn't no longer supported with Updates for Security and Bug Issues, it runs as it is. With no fixing.
To that could come the Point that this libssl Version maybe could cause Trouble with the OS because of Compatibility Issues. So, these are Points in my Opinion. Youi contaced the Developer You wrote. So, maybe waiting a bit for an answer and see what they will write. But when they don't support it anymore, You use it at Your own Risk.
Hello again, thank you for the info, I do appreciate it. I did write both the support page on google play store, as well as the actual creator an email, I am hoping for a decent answer, but am not getting my hopes up just in case. I again understand what you meant, and appreciate the insight. Have a great new year!
