When You go to Settings>System>Info is there shown that You are on Zorin 17 or 18?
When You type in Terminal apt list linux-headers-5.15.0-53-generic is it shown as [installed]?
Hmm ... Okay, let's try the Following: Use the Zorin Bootstick or if You shouldn't have one, create one and start it in Live Mode. Look there for ''Boot Repair'' and let it run.
but can I do it with any boot stick even from another operating system that has "live" boot repair or do I have to do it with Zorin?
It would be good to use Zorin but You could do it with Linux Mint, too. The Thing is: On Zorin, I know that it is there. If other's have that, I'm not sure. But theoretically, You can use it from other Systems, too.
I personally prefer it to keep it at the same System what I use.
so umm yeah which type you are using
im a dev talking from REO.inc
im also using zorin os 18.1
Having gotten rid of my old PC with Nvidia, and now that I've cloned the SSD to a new PCâwhich lacks Nvidia but has integrated graphicsâI wanted to install the "native" Zorin 18.1 kernel.
Could you tell me the command string and, of course, the latest current version?
Hopefully, that will help me solve my initial problem.
Thanks.
Which Zorin version is installed? Zorin 17 or 18?
Zorin 18.1.
What do you mean with the "native" Zorin 18.1 kernel? Don't you have one of the 7.0 kernels or do you want to install the 6.8 ga kernel?
By default, Zorin 18 uses the hwe stack. And there, the latest kernel is 7.0.0-39.
With which kernel was Zorin 18 released?
Thatâs the one I need; I had switched to 6.8 due to issues with the Nvidia 470 driver...
This kernel is out of support now, but you can install the hwe stack so that you get a current supported 7.0 kernel.
Can you please post the output of
dpkg -l | grep linux-generic-hwe-24.04
to see if it shows the hwe kernel stack as installed.
You can install the latest hwe kernel with
sudo apt install linux-generic-hwe-24.04
Then reboot.
The installed linux-image-6.8.0-137-generic package's post-removal script returned error status 1
dpkg: too many errors, shutting down
Errors occurred while processing:
linux-image-6.8.0-137-generic
The operation was halted because too many errors occurred.
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
Unfortunately, I can't seem to get rid of kernel 6.8.0-137, which keeps throwing errors.
At this point, I'll have to reinstall everything from scratch.
I'd like to know if Zorinâlike other distributionsâallows for a partial system restore using a USB drive, or if it will wipe the partition completely once it detects that it is already occupied by Zorin.
I'm wondering why you still have the hwe kernel stack of ubuntu 22.04 after your upgrade to Zorin 18.
Sorry, I don't know what can help you at the moment to solve it without a fresh install. Perhaps someone else can help you.
Actually, I thought that when you upgrade with the Zorin upgrader tool from Zorin 17 to Zorin 18, the hwe stack would switch from hwe 22.04 to hwe 24.04, but I'm not sure.
When You want the current used Kernel, the Command is:
sudo apt install linux-headers-7.0.0-38-generic linux-image-7.0.0-38-generic linux-modules-7.0.0-38-generic linux-main-modules-v4l2loopback-7.0.0-38-generic linux-main-modules-zfs-7.0.0-38-generic linux-hwe-7.0-headers-7.0.0-38 linux-hwe-7.0-tools-7.0.0-38 linux-generic-hwe-24.04
If you need to keep using 6.8 as I do, it is now up to .146 so perhaps updating will solve your problem.
If you are using the save default approach, you need to go into advanced options and select .146 one time for it to become your new default and .137 will then be history.
