Newbie question

Hey everyone,

I am trying to change the default RDP client from the default Remmina to Thinclient for its USB sharing functionality.

I have saved some connections, to the desktop and would like to be able to just click on them and have my desired program to open them.

I have tried to search around for ways to change the default program but it seems like Zorin 18 has changed the process and I'm unable to figure it out.

Under properties there is no set as default button that there once was.

Any help would be much appreciated!
Thank you!

Welcome to the forum!

Would you be able to give some information into how you've saved these connections? Through some file on the desktop that you've made manually, or a connection saved through Remmina on the desktop? Just trying to get an idea so we can try to give you some better solutions.

They are saved as .RDP files.
By default when I double click on them Remmina will start up and run.

However I need to change it to thincast as it does what I need for USB sharing across the connection.

From what I was able to find here I would want to select use as default on the properties screen but it looks like it changed in version 18

Thank you so much for your help!

Welcome to the Forum!

When You don't use Remmina, uninstall it. Then would only be Thincast available. Then the File should automatically open in it. You can uninstall Remmina with:

sudo apt purge remmina

Thank you for your reply!

Unfortunately after removing Remmina it now only opens as a text file instead.

I know that in older versions of Zorin there was a "Use as default" type of button but it seems to have gone in the newer Zorin.

Thanks again for the replies and help!

Yeah, this is unfortunately no longer available ...

I'm not sure if I remeber wrong now or not but You could take a Look in Debian 13 Gnome. I think there is this Button available again. you could run it in Live Mode and simply check it with a File.

Thank you for the reply, that's unfortunate.
I have been really liking Zorin.

Was there a specific reason why it would have been removed?

The Gnome developers don't want you to change anything in the system, but rather leave everything as they imagine the system should look and behave. No own adaptations.
They are therefore removing more and more features that used to be available in earlier Gnome versions which enabled custom configurations.

That is a Question for the Gnome Developers I guess. There are bit ... ''unique'' with their Desktop.
