Have been using computers since buying an Amstrad in 1986 . Have just installed Zorin os 18.1 on purpose built dual boot pc to get away from Win11 except for X-Plane 12 which in the Linux version lacks planes ,airports etc. Have run into a problem with Libre Office Calc 26.2.2.2(86_64). Have got all Format options to work except "fill background color" into selected area, the format screen looks good but when I press OK no color appears in the target area. Have tried it numerous times on single cells and multiple cells. When I transfer Excel.xlsx files to Office Calc from a usb they open perfectly, exactly as in win 11 with full color fills in selected areas. when saved in OD format all color fills are removed as well. The function is there and looks straight forward. Appreciate some advice
Under Format > Conditional, is anything managing fill background?
I just tested this on my build and the cell background color sets cleanly on Zorin OS 18.1 Lite. I am using a theme of my own creation, not a Zorin Theme.
You might check if anything in ~/.config/libreoffice/ is corrupted or inhibiting user actions. You can just back up
mv ~/.config/libreoffice/ ~/.config/libreoffice-bk
Then delete
rm ~/.config/libreoffice/
The restart - and test.
If you want to, you can restore LibreOffice Configurations from the backup -bk directory.
I also tested it in Zorin 18.1 core and it worked to set background colors of cells or areas with the Zorin theme. So there must be something wrong.
Edit: Do you have set high contrast at Zorin settings > accessibility > seeing or in libre office calc at Tools > Options > Libre Office > Acceccibility > High contrast > automatic/enabled?
Then the background colors seem not to work or are not displayed.
You can use the high contrast in Zorin but disable it for libre office calc when you go in libre office calc to
Tools > Options > LibreOffice > Accessibility and set the box at high contrast from automatically (or enabled) to disabled.

I tried it and it worked for me. My Way to do it:
I made a Right-Click on a Cell and have chosen in the Menu the last Option to format a Cell:
Then a Window opened, I had chosen ''Background'' and then ''Color'':
Don't forget to click on OK (bottom right Corner) when You have chosen the Color.
Thanks to you all for the replies and help you offered with particular thanks to Forpli as you hit the nail on its head! Into Zorin settings> 'unchecked' High Contrast and it worked immediately. Its a tough learning curve but getting there. With laptops being produced using Linux now on the market, look forward to more user friendly packages becoming available. In mean time happy to restrict win 11 to X-Plane 12.
Glad to hear! You can continue to use the high-contrast mode in Zorin if you'd like, and just disable it in LibreOffice. Then the colored background in the cells will work too.
I learned something new, too, because I didn't know that before and had to look it up first.
When high contrast is enabled, the background color is set correctly (and is also saved when the document is saved); you just can't see the color on the screen. As soon as you disable high contrast, the background color becomes visible.
