I installed ubuntu-mate-desktop on Z_17.2 then looked for Firefox on Menu/Internet. It wasn't there. So I tried an apt install and was told it was already installed. So I did an uninstall and re-installed it; still wouldn't show on menu. Can I safely remove Zorin desktop as I don't need it and have Mate.
Check what format Firefox is installed as.
Snap - Flatpak or Debian package.
Once verified, you can check /usr/share/applications
for a Firefox .desktop file.
This is the file that creates an App Menu entry.
If it does not exist, you can create one.
On Mate Desktop, you can use the Menu Editor GUI to create a .desktop file.
Open the editor,, then navigate to the Internet category and select new item
Name: Firefox
Command: firefox
Comment: Web Browser
You can select an icon, then Save.
There is a Firefox icon with contents that start with the following with lots more after my paste:
Double clicking this icon opens Firefox
[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Type=Application
Exec=firefox %u
Terminal=false
X-MultipleArgs=false
Icon=firefox
StartupWMClass=firefox
Categories=GNOME;GTK;Network;WebBrowser;
You could try here add Internet
to the Categories. Maybe then it is visible in the MATE Menu.
