The OS is not loading after i install the updates to it. It just sits there on a BLACK screen forever. Reboot does nothing. Tested on 4 other machines and same thing. Whats going on is this a known bug?
Do you see the grub menu on boot?
If you do see it, try running previous linux kernel:
From menu item: "Additional Options for Zorin"
Choose previous linux kernel generic version
boot that and see result.
What graphics do you have?
or. What PC make/model do you have (so we can find that out).
I will move this thread to General Help, as it is a post-installation issue.
Do all 5 machines affected have ZorinOS 18.1 Core installed?
EDIT: Are these new ZorinOS installations or were they all working before the software update?
FYI. Some pre-installation advice can be found here: Before you install
if theres no grub and it just goes black after the zorin splash, from the black screen try:
-ctrl+alt+f3 for a tty login
-journalctl -b -1 -p err | head -80
-lspci -nn | rg -i 'vga|3d'
from grub (hold shift or esc at boot if the menu is hidden):
-e on the zorin line, add nomodeset at the end of the linux line, ctrl+x to boot
if tty works but gui doesnt:
-sudo systemctl status gdm
-sudo ubuntu-drivers devices
say if u get a tty and what gpu/pc.

There is a known linux firmware bug with AMD-GPUs showing black screens.
To get system infos choose Settings - System - Info - System Details.
Actually the amd_gpu bug was resolved with the latest linux-firmware update but if this computers haven't been updated recently this could be the problem ![]()
This happens after the log in. I get the normal log on screen then after putting in my password it just hangs on a black screen
When You have the Login Screen and it chrashes after the Login, maybe it is related if the System runs in Wayland or Xorg. When You are on the Login Screen, click on Your Profile so that the Password Field appears. When it is appeared, You should see in the bottom right Corner a Gear Icon. Click on it and check what Option is selected.

An if @Ponce-De-Leon solution doesn't fix anything, boot in grub and select recovery mode, and so launch an upgrade of your system when you will be login in
