Now That I Updated My BIOS Games On Steam Do Not Work

I just updated my BIOS and now none of my games will load any more for various reasons .... some will load but not open .... some will open but not run .....

Anyone have any ideas ..... do I have to reinstall Steam ????

Updating BIOS can change your BIOS settings, including automatically re-enabling Secure boot.
First step: Check Secure Boot.

What Graphics are you using?

In Steam > Library - Select a game with Right click, then Properties > Installed Files and choose Verify integrity of Game Files

Check that the Drive they are saved on is being pointed to and automounts.

Also, try a different Proton layer like Proton Hotfix or Proton Experimental under properties > Game Compatibility.

Thank you I will give that a try .....

Just to add to that, it can often change a lot of your BIOS settings, including Fast Boot (and more annnoyingly for me, fan curves). Definitely take some time and go through it, and make sure everything is as it should be like you had it in the previous version.

Turned it back off ....

Was using NVIDIA 550 .... didn't work with it so I upgraded to 570 still didn't work ....

Done still no change ....

Not sure how to do this one ....

Tried both .... was on Proton Experimental but tried Hotfix still no change ..... at one point it did try to start the game but then it closed and I got the following messages ..... they were blinking on and off so fast I was lucky to get a photo of each one ... took many tries ....

Don't suppose there is any way to revert back to my old BIOS ..... LOL

After my nap I'll give it a look see and find out what other settings were changed ..... thanks

Simply unbelievable ..... I went back in as applecheeks37 suggested to check for other BOIS changes and found the Secure Boot enabled again .... I swear I had disabled it and then chose Save and Exit ..... but there is was AGAIN ..... so this time I just selected Save exited the Security selection restarted it and made sure it was still selected and it was ....I then chose Save and Exit again .....

My games on Steam are ...as of this moment .... working just fine .... now I'm going to take my nap .... I deserve it .... LOL

While playing the game yesterday it froze and I had to close it which of course meant I lost all my progress in the mission I was doing .... as it had never done that before I decided to go back to my original driver NVIDIA 550 from 570 .... will try it today and see how it reacts ....

That seems to work going back to NVIDIA 550 game ran flawlessly for over 4 hours .... looks like all my problems with my laptop have been solved ....

Thanks again to all the folks above that contributed to this thread .... :+1:

Incredible, have installed Zorin / W10 with disabled secure boot last year. Good to see that this feature does not appear, but i have the mobile steam app for security.
Doubt that a switched on secure boot will boot on a system that was installed without it
