NVIDIA 390 driver

im currently without a gpu at this time and waiting to get a new one

is choosing another brand besides NVIDIA will make me have an easier time with this system? im planning to go to micro center and talk to them about it but before then idk if resetting me system and starting fresh is the best option.

Yes. Either Intel or AMD have their drivers included in the Linux Kernel.
This means you will have an easier time.

Choosing Nvidia is about a variety of needs and preferences.

yeah i just need it for gaming, thanks for the advice!

hi guys im back i got a AMD RADEON RX 9060 XT at micro center that they recomended me. and im having the same issue zorin dont recognize it and i know it aint the cable or the power. fans dont spin when turned on and cant see any image

That is a very new card.

Any kernel below 6.12 will not recognize it, and I recommend higher than 6.14...

Alternatively, you can download the latest AMDGPU driver:
https://www.amd.com/en/support/downloads/drivers.html/graphics/radeon-rx/radeon-rx-9000-series/amd-radeon-rx-9060-xt.html

And install (RHEL is Red Hat Enterprise Linux and SLE is Suse Linux Enterprise, so you can skip that part):

i upgraded kernel and dowloaded the latest driver and still not recognized

Do You have uninstalled the Nvidia Driver?

Can you try:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ernstp/mesarc

sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade

sudo apt install linux-oem-24.04

After a full reboot, check your kernel version with

uname -r

If you can't see any image at all, including anything POST related, I would wager there may be a physical hardware issue rather than an issue with Zorin. Most GPUs now have a 0 rpm mode when under a certain temp, but when the system first boots it should spin the fans to ensure they're functioning correctly (only for a brief moment). Are there any lights on the card that would indicate any faults / proper functionality? It may be that you need to go to your bios and force the default display to be through your discreet gpu, versus the integrated.

yes i did

Are you using Zorin 17?

Zorin OS 17.3 Core

This package doesn't exist in zorin 17.
You could take a look at this thread. The user got the card to work on Zorin 17, but probably Zorin 18 would be better for this new card.

do i upgrade to 18 then? and how?

im going to repost my specs just in case

The upgrader tool to upgrade from Zorin 17 to 18 is not yet available, you can only make a fresh install of Zorin 18.

But you could create a Zorin 18 bootstick and test Zorin 18 in "Try Zorin" mode to see if your card works with Zorin 18.

I'm patiently waiting for the upgrader to be ready. From what I understand, the Zorin team are supposed to put out a PSA blog post about the upgrader, when its ready to go. :slightly_smiling_face:
