Hoping someone will be able to help me through this. NVIDIA has released their 595 driver last month, but it's not yet listing in the "Additional Drivers". I was going to manually update, but after my first attempt of using NVIDIAs *.run installer, my driver failed completely. While I'm sure there was a way to do it, I was on a pretty fresh install and just decided to wipe the system again.
Does someone know a tested and true way that I can effectively install the updated driver without issues? Also, when attempting to use the *.run file, it gives a "An NVIDIA kernel module ‘nvidia-uvm’ appears to already be loaded in your kernel" warning.
doing the manual install you ran it with...... sudo sh (file name)... in terminal in the directory you downloaded it to? aka if download is folder its at in terminal type cd Downloads this puts in download folder or you can open the download folder then right click in blank area then choose open terminal and it should say $Downloads in blue
To clarify, the 590 driver IS showing up in Additional Drivers, the recently released 595 driver is not. But it's available from NVIDIA directly as a *.run installer.
I'm currently running the 590 driver, I just prefer to run the latest available when possible for my GPU, and the 595 has been released stable as far as I can tell.
I think my problem lies more in what you said about answering the installer questions correctly. But with it saying that it's already loaded, would I need to install it via grub to ensure it works correctly?
You're not wrong, I'm just being impatient. I'm also aware it will hit the repo before too long. Guess I'll just settle in on this one and wait it out. Thanks.
