OBS Studio can't load or run it

I am trying to use OBS Studio. It says installed, but it never comes up. I tried installing also via command line, but that doesn't work either. I saw some older posts talking about Wayland vs X11 - I'm not sure what that means exactly :).
If OBS doesn't work with Zorin... what other screen recording s.w does?
Can anyone help?

If it only for pure screen recording "GPU Recorder" is far the best IMO. But if you want advanced stuff you better have to post the output of OBS when running it via terminal.

I use Simple Screen Recorder. Probably not as fancy, but it does the trick for my admittedly modest needs.

Those are different technologies that handle the rendering of the windows. Wayland is more restrictive and some applications, particularly those that act on the screen directly (like screen recorders) may not work properly.

To change between these two, at the login screen, use the gear icon on the lower right (you might need to login to your account, and then logout to see):

Is OBS installed as Flatpak or .deb/APT Package?

An Alternative would be Kdenlive. You can install it as Flatpak, too or use the AppImage:

simple screen recorder is really simple - i like it! but it doesn't record sound.
thanks for the x11 vs wayland info. what happens if i login on Xorg? does that only change how the window is rendered? will it affect other things?
thanks for you help!

Kdenlive is an editor not recording / broadcasting software as far as I know.

I have never tried recording audio, but the option is there:

It uses a different underlying set of libraries to render windows. Depending on the hardware and the application itself, you might see that some things work better using Xorg or Wayland. Give it a try, it won't break your system I promise

Do You use Zorin 17 or the Zorin 18 Beta? If it is the Zorin 18 Beta - and only then -, You could add the PPA from OBS:
