I thought there was a right click icon item to align or not to align desktop icons. I will check that when I am back on Zorin.
Edit: Just checked. Right Click on Desktop provides a Menu with item "Keep Aligned [ ]". So just have to check that box for vertically aligned icons (not horizontal alignment).
