I'm totally enjoying 18 as the Windows-ish distro but there's just this one thing...
In Wayland, the password box often loops (without the wrong pwd message) where in X11 it doesn't loop but leaves the mouse pointer visible on the black screen when in Screen Blanking. Both happen intermittently but without switching (with the gear icon) the video processing in Wayland to X11, I'm locked out in a loop. Both Suspend and Screen Blank are set to not ask for a pwd. Seems someone may have seen this?
I've read this is the 'Ubuntu Loop' that is a common issue. After a complete clean reinstall, the pwd loop and pointer hang reoccur. Is this a normal thing? Most help points to Nvidia cards. I have Intel.
Actually different issues with both X11 and Wayland. In Wayland, the password dialog box appears and starts looping allowing no access. The fix is to switch to X11 where the password works as normal. But...
In X11 when the Screen Blank the mouse pointer is displayed on a black background. The password issue is fine but the hung mouse is strange.
It seems intermittent with the password loop. Extended time passing when in 'blank' (over an hour) the password box will pop even though its disabled in settings.
I'm kinda new here with prior Mint experience. When testing the OS for a Mother in Law build, I found I really like Zorin. A lot! Now converting to it for my own use with glee and gusto. This password loop also occurred with Mint so not exactly a stranger. Went a tad OCD with loops and mouse hangs hoping there may be a simple thing I'm missing. The problem duplicates with a clean OS restore so pretty sure it's an internal process thing, not a quick fix.
Update: (workaround). Thinking Wayland is preferred as where Zorin is heading. So a little pain is expected here. Now she's running in Wayland by...
I set the screen to never blank. That stops the mystery password box loop. I have it suspending after 20 min from no activity. Works great going in and out of 'sleep' with no issue and it's fast. All's good running this method, in fact, maybe a better solution than blanking only?
What I didn't say is how amazing Zorin OS is with minimal pain! The elderly person build I put up is bullet proof and was well received as easy to train. Just cut my workstation over and it is a sweety. Life is good when you don't have to switch video modes to login!!
Not certain if you're a member or a post closing bot? So, for either, I left it open as it duplicates the issues after a complete wipe and reinstall. Pretty sure it's a bug as Wayland vs. X11 have completely different behavior with sleep/suspend password management.
Someone may read this having the exact issue and chime in with a fix? Workarounds are great to share to continue enjoying Zorin but as the power/blank screen settings are not working as presented, (for normal logins) it's not a solution. My Intel hardware is new gen where I see this issue documented with Nvidea GPUs which I don't have. There's clearly something related to Wayland creating this login loop users and devs should see as a bug report.
The only "bots" used by Zorin Forum is "Forum Bot" which is just a tutorial program that only responds to direct inquiries that address it (very limited... in fact) and the Akismet anti-spam filter which never posts openly on the forum.
There is no A.I. used in the forum software, nor any posting bots of any kind.
Interesting forum design. Clicking an avatar doesn't reveal if they're a person or a bot title Was unsure why a member would police others posts questioning a lame workaround as a solution.
Now that I see Mods are reviewing these, I'll do whatever practice is recommended. I see value in demonstrating bugs but being new up here is another thing. Maybe open issues are to be avoided?
Ah, well, this is because there are no bots on the forum.
"Forum Bot" must be deliberately invoked in a PM/DM - it does not act on the forum itself. It is a personal tutorial, only. I can say "There are no bots" but someone else might say, "But 'Forum Bot!' " It... barely counts. But it exists.
And the aksimet system only posts alerts to moderators. It, too, does not interact on the forum other than being seen as an automated action - there is no profile to click on.
So, any member you speak to is a person - And if one isn't, we will eliminate it.
Because this is a HelpDesk. And members will helpfully point out suggestions that help all readers find solutions efficiently and quickly.
I will quote you directly:
Given your own words, turning back on that now to say "a lame workaround as a solution." seems rather odd, to me.
I think you are right to differentiate between a workaround and a solution.
As the Original Poster, you have quite a bit of say as to whether you feel that the issue is solved or worked around - merely expressing this is all that is needed.
Someone asked if you feel it is solved - you answered that you do not believe it is quite at that point, yet - and that would be that.
Well okay then. How might one report a bug on this very Zorin site? Not on this page is now abundantly clear!
So, might there be a friendly Zorin talk forum where users share info that are not required to follow a formal help desk protocol? Thinking not.
Sorry, I totally missed that user posts were subject to attack dog purists waiting to pounce on unwashed newbies. Just asked a question and bam. It's closed, delete the thread.
What are you talking about?
Nothing has been closed, deleted - no one pounced - well except for you...
I do agree that the ZorinGroup needs a clear path to BugReporting. In fairness, Gnomes own path keeps changing.
For Formal bug reporting, you might use the process given on launchpad or github.
Everything else you posted is... Who do you think you're fooling?
