Installed Zorin 18 on a Dell Inspiron 11 3000 Series and all went well. After I installed the latest updates and restarted the pc shuts down after it goes thru the boot process. I see the Dell logo, the 3 different options and select Zorin OS, then I see the Dell logo again with the Zorin logo below it and after a few seconds th pc shuts down.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
Hi and welcome.
All I can think of is it could be a kernel conflict with your hardware. Try rapidly pressing the 'Esc'(ape) key during boot to get to the GRUB menu. If this does not work, try repeated pressing of left shift key to get to GRUB menu. Once there, select 'Advanced options for Zorin'. See if there is more than one kernel listed and down arrow to the earlier one to see if it will boot.
Thanks. I now have a "bash like line editing" issue when I get to the Grub menu so I have to fix that first. It's above my pay grade but I found a fix online and I'll try that and see.
Welcome to the Forum!
- Are Secure Boot and Fast Boot in BIOS disabled?
- If Windows is still installed: Is Fast Start-Up in Windows disabled?
- Is Your BIOS in UEFI or Legacy Mode?
- What Tool did You use to create the Bootstick?
- Did You checked the Checksum of the ISO?
Secure Boot and Fast Boot are disabled.
Windows is not installed (Chrome Flex OS) was the previous system.
BIOS is UEFI.
Used BalenaEtcher for Bootstick.
Checksum of the ISO is "above my pay grade" and not sure how to do that.
Thanks

Beneath checking the Checksum of the ISO what @zabadabadoo already linked:
Maybe Etcher is a Problem. If You have a Windwos-Pc, I would recommedn to use Rufus for creating the Bootstick. On the Option ''Partition Sheme'' choose GPT for Your UEFI BIOS.
Here is the latest. When I turned the PC on today it loaded Zorin without any problem and I was able to explore just about all the features including pairing it with another device via Bluetooth after installing an available update. I really liked what I saw.
I then did a restart to see what would happen and it took me back to square 1 by shutting down after it starts to load. Not sure what to do now. Maybe it just needs to rest for long periods.........
Thanks
it was probly configuring the bios or something and it get its figured out and now is working?
But it doesn't boot to the os and keeps shutting down. I can't figure out why it was fine when I first turned it on and no longer works. The only change is that there was a new software update.
What size partition is Zorin OS installed on?
What comes immediately to mind is Root partition is filled.
Also try to switch to Xorg when the computer is able to reach login screen. At loginscreen click on your username then a cog wheal appears at the bottom right corner. There you can switch between Xorg and Wayland. Try if it is better then.
I not familiar with Linux and all these recommendations are "above my pay grade".
My username doesn't show up on the login screen and I think that's because I set it up to not require a login.
I'm trying to find someone who knows Linux to help me out.
Yes, hands and eyes on can make a very big difference.
I did the entire installation and it seemed to go well but after rebooting the shut off issue is still present. This is the GRUB screen I get when I press ESC during boot:
