Hi All

Been dual-booting for a while and loving it............ mainly. No it's great.

I have bought a large HDD for internal archiving. And then noticed that I don't have any free SATA ports. I know...............

So, is there anyone out there who can recommend a PCIe SATA card? Needs to really work out of the box as I have only just arrived at Linux and it's all very complicated after Windows.

My mother board is MSI MS-7B89 Mortar Max. The only free slot is a PCI 4 slot near the edge of the board.

You really have to read this and understand what card you need (your slot is not a PCI 4 form it's just his name)

I would offer an Alternative: Look for a Case for Your HDD and then use it as an external Drive.

Thanks for the info regarding PCI 4.

So, at the moment I have a graphics card covering the first M.2 slot and occupying the PCIe slot. The second M.2 slot is occupied by a wifi card, so are you saying that the second PCIe slot wont work at all?

You need to identify your slot with the doc, so all is writen in what I gave you

The only one available is the one at the edge PCI_E. The wifi card is in PCI_E3.

So you need to find a sata card with the carateristic of the PCI_E4 line
this kind of card, but search in your country to find better or from a local seller wo can help you with caracteritics.

Sorry, just checked your diagram.

Graphics card is in PCI_E1 (This makes PCI-E2 unusable).

The wifi card is in PCI_E3.

The reason I bought an internal HDD was because I wanted it to be internal.

Ok thanks. Any recommendations? I understand the Marvel chips are unreliable but apart from that I know nothing about these cards.
