Performance hit switching from Wayland > x11?

Hi all
I've installed Zorin 18 on an older PC, 16GB ddr3, AMD FX 6300 CPU,
onboard Radeon 3000 graphics, legacy BIOS/MBR only

I like to use the xgamma command to make a change
to the display so that I can get it as close as possible to gamma 2.2.
I use this test pattern to find the right value, then save the command
in home/.profile

It works well, but only when I use x11, it doesn't work at all if wayland is active

SO I have two questions, is there a performance hit or other negative running Zorin 18 on x11 vs. Wayland, and 2),
is there a way to do something similar with Wayland active?

That depends on your computer. On some computers, x11 runs better, especially on older hardware, while on others Wayland runs better. However, Wayland often still has many bugs.

Maybe this tool could help for setting gamma in Wayland?

But for your old computer with legacy BIOS I'd recommend to stay on XOrg/X11. Wayland is not stable on old systems.

Welcome to the Forum!

It could be a Compatibility Issue maybe. Depending on Your Usage, You can simply use X11.

Appreciate your thoughts...

The command I'm using is
xgamma -gamma 0.95

It flat out does nothing in Wayland.

I'm going to take a look at the command posted above. Would be nice to have a Wayland solution
Regards !

When the x implies that it only works on X11 ... then it can't work on Wayland. But I don't know if this is the Case.

I will answer 2 questions, I know, you must be special, lucky you lol.

(1) If you have an Nvidia GPU, X11 is recommended, Wayland doesn't work well with Nvidia.

(2) X11 will be a performance hit for slow machines made in 2012 for example. Any performance machine made in 2021 or newer, X11 performance is negligible. X11 also doesn't hurt modern mid-range computers either.
