I am an old stubborn IT guy looking into shaking off the Windows era and move over to a Linux distro that require less blood and tears.
I fumbled into Zorin OS, been testing it some on my laptop and still is, before i make up my mind about installing on my main rig.
I have one question though, i use;
RODE Podmic (USB) and a Focusrite DAC (3rd gen) for headphones.
Are these 3rd party components supported?
I read on their homepages that they don't have Linux drivers/software, but i depend 100% on being able to use these things on Zorin OS. That includes the ability to tune gain and such.
Many PC users have these kind of products, including streamers, and i think it would be a huge thing if these type of things are supported and highlighted.
That asked, thank you for your effort in all this.
The OS looks promising and a very good way for people to take the blue pill and move into the Linux world.
You could download Zorin, put it on an USB Stick, start it, choose the Option ''Try Zorin'' to come in Live Mode and then You could test if Your Audio works.
I thought that if i try Zorin OS live, it would still use the currently installed Windows drivers in the background.
It was also a more general question, if these things have been a topic for you as developers, as these things will be a game changer for people when choosing a distro.
Support for podmic's and dac's, as well as different keyboards and mouse, should have a section in the driver lib.
Just my two cents.
I will test your theory and get back here with my experience.
I can tell you that it works with my FiiO ESS DAC - invisibly and out of the box. Us former Windows users aren't used to that. Like you I tested Zorin on another machine. Over time found program analogs, or agnostic programs to sub for any of those Windows programs I used that didn't support Linux. Played with it and got used to it and most importantly established the habit of backing up. Finally made the jump to Zorin on my workhorse machine. Kept a Windows laptop just in case. No regrets!
