Printer Service Not Available

I installed updates for Zorin OS 17.3 pro. All seemed fine until I ran software updates. Now when I access Settings - Printer, I see a message: 'Sorry, The system printing service doesn't seem to be available'.

I have a brother printer. I installed the following Downloads | HL-2240 | United States | Brother But i get the following error msg when attempting to install Brother Driver Install Tool on Zorin terminal: Bad file descriptor

so was this driver with these instructions?

and at the URI question i just hit enter leave it blank

Yes, that is the website for the driver

oh so don't enter 0 or 1
Should I reinstall and just hit enter?

i would try that yes then unplug your printer usb then shutdown computer replug it in and startup computer you should see after a few secs/monents at top of screen new printer detected and see it complete then it should be working...let me know

rename driver to somesimple like just priner makes it easier then typing in all the dashes and stuff

did you after reinstall unplug usb shutdown computer plug usb back in then restart comp?

let me do that now

No dice. unplugged USB printer connection. Restarted computer. Reinstalled driver. still getting Bad file descriptor error.

In settings, printers "Sorry! The system printing service doesn't seem to be available."

ok im gonna have to look up how to purge/remove all the driver stuff so you can do a fresh printer install

do you have the instruction page?

you can scroll up to see the one to use

`sudo apt remove --purge cups

in a terminal then redo the install been awhile to tell you what to answer to each question tho

What instruction page to Brother or Zorin OS?

im sure you gunziped it already follow from there in a terminal

make sure to cd Downloads if thats where it downloaded

Should I issue the command: Use 'sudo apt autoremove --purge cups' to remove them.

just type sudo apt autoremove
