Prioritizing Mental Health/Well-being Online

Librewolf gets a lot of recommendations.
While it would be nice to have a selection at point of install, it is fair to point out that you can install and set as default any browser of your choice quite easily.

Excellent steps. We visit our mechanics to maintain our reliable transportation. Our doctors to maintain our core health.
The brain is an organ that needs healthy maintenance just as much. Our society teaches us to ignore the plight of the mind which is the absolute biggest fallacy I can imagine.

We can lose many things in life, but our minds are something we really do not want to lose.

Hello welcome back. Be sure to get plenty of rest and don't push or fatigue yourself mentally when possible.

Good to have you back! One advantage of forums is the slow pace of communication, something increasingly rare these days. You can take your time to deal with real life and come back as if nothing ever happened.

True that. I find movies like Memento, as good as they are artistically, to be more scary than actual horror movies.

That's right, I feel a very strong sense of community here, which I rarely experience. You all give each other strength, and there are many great people here. Above all, I am grateful to the community and the Zorin OS team; it motivates me greatly.

Hello everyone, I just wanted to say thank you for this topic. I rarely find this topic in some Linux forums, this topic gives me the realization that I am not alone in this world.

On the flip side ...I think I will loose my mind If I'm not online.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't! :joy:

It's quite the balance act. Socializing can be as awkward and exhausting for me as sitting in front of the computer for 8 hours straight. Being in good company and having fun is not always possible, thought essential...

:skull:
@Ponce-De-Leon , from reading a few of your answers, which I found quite polite, you didn't give the vibes of a troll.

:woman_shrugging: but who knows, maybe such songs help build some mental toughness, resilience.

I didn't troll. I meant it serious. I find that refreshing and relaxing. Of Course when it runs, You have the Machine Gun Drums, the Guitar Riffs and the Singing and Growling of Mr. Alex Terrible and that is raw, hard, brutal and loud. But this blows all Your Thoughts and Concerns out of Your Head. And then ... I feel relaxed.

I prefer something a little more slow:

Sure. Only because it works for me doesn't mean that it works for everyone.

I, too, find @Ponce-De-Leon's link relaxing.
But, that is my style of music and I spent more time in mosh pits than I can even remember. It is just one of those differences...
Sometimes, we manage things using cathartic means.
But in order to agree as to what is cathartic - we need to have had similar memories and experiences in life.

I hesitated to say it, and will not dwell on this, just my opinion:
@Ponce-De-Leon and @Aravisian , you have authority as Community Leaders, please consider if such a video especially in such a topic and as a means to relax, may be judged (by a "reasonable person") as extreme. It can be interpreted, at first sight, as somewhat promoting violence/aggression?...

Again, I don't want to debate this, but I feel I had to point it out.

Differences are just that: differences. In tastes. In reflection.

To details:
The music video in question is only a link to a video that any member may choose to watch or not watch. Certainly, it is not everyone's style of music. Many different music styles are showcased in the thread dedicated to music.
It does not contain violence. If we can agree it has an aggressive tone, I can point out the aggressive nature of Beethoven, Symphony No. 5 in C Minor
or
Symphony No. 3 in Eā™ Major

I would consider myself to be a pretty reasonable person.

Well to balance things out, my preference is for a more relaxed approach. Stress can occur at any time and different conditions. My last major mental health issue came at work when Office 2007 had a major effect on my wellbeing, as preparing modified documents for students with poor vision became harder. I found dusting the house while listening to Aquascape and other groups from Tunguska Electronic Music Society more refreshing.

To improve mental health, do some other activity whilst listening to music.

Extreme ... in some kind of Way for me, You could see that. As @Aravisian already wrote the Music has an aggressive Tone; there is no doubt. But it gives me in the Result an relaxed Feeling. Why it is so, I explained. So, You could see this Contrast from aggressive Music to a relaxed Feeling as an relative Extreme to me and my mental Condition.

Of Course that isn't a Blueprint for everybody in the World. This is only my Feeling and Reaction of it.

Hey Users !

Hello there!

What have you done personally, in prioritizing your mental health/well-being online? Any thoughts/musings on the subject?

I'm using an image blocker, originally for reducing bandwidth consumption on metered smartphone connections. After switching to higher bandwidth, I've switched the blocker off and felt that the internet without emotional imagery is much nicer, calmer and less agitating. I've written more about that here A calmer web - Hello - EndeavourOS
