My setup: Zorin OS 18.1 Core, on an HP EliteBook 840 G6.
I have a suggestion that I think fits Zorin's goal of being easy for people switching from Windows or Mac.
The main idea:
During installation (or on first login), show the user a simple choice: "Which keyboard shortcuts do you prefer?" with options like Windows, Mac, or Default Linux. When they pick one, Zorin sets up the matching shortcuts for them automatically.
This way, a new user does not have to know anything about settings, GNOME, or how Linux works. Their old habits just work from day one.
Why this helps:
Most people who switch from Windows are not Linux experts. They do not know what GNOME, Wayland, or Xorg mean, and they should not need to. When their normal shortcuts do not work, they do not think "I must remap this." They think "this is broken" or "Linux is too hard." Then many go back to Windows.
Here are the things that gave me trouble, which this install prompt could solve:
1. Clipboard history (Super + V)
Windows 11 has this and people use it daily. Zorin has nothing built in. A new user must find and install another app, and most will not know where to start.
2. Clipboard app not working on Wayland
I installed CopyQ, but it did not work. No error, nothing copied. The reason was that the default Wayland session blocks it. Only switching to Xorg fixed it. A normal user cannot figure this out alone. If Zorin sets up a working clipboard tool as part of the "Windows shortcuts" option, this problem disappears.
3. Shortcuts do not match Windows
Region screenshot (Super + Shift + S) and show desktop (Super + D) are on different keys, or not set at all. New users have to search through menus to fix habits they did not know were settings.
In short:
A single "Windows or Mac shortcuts?" question during setup would remove a lot of early friction. It would make Zorin feel familiar from the first minute, which is exactly what a Windows replacement should do. And please make sure the clipboard history option works on the default session, so it does not fail silently like it did for me.
This is not a complaint, I like Zorin and I am staying. I am suggesting this because the "easy switch from Windows" goal is worth doing well, and the small daily things are what make people stay.
