I have tried multiple different paths to resolve the issue. I have been using the flatpak for several months without issue prior to this incident.
Here is the timeline and what I have done so far...unsuccessfully...to resolve the issue.
I first noticed this problem on September 27, 2026. RapidRAW had been working before that, but since then it launches into a very small blank/minimized window and never becomes usable.
I have now seen the same behavior on two different computers running Zorin OS 18.1. My desktop has an NVIDIA RTX 3090 and my laptop uses AMD integrated graphics, so this does not appear to be specific to NVIDIA.
Here is what I have tried so far:
-
Tested RapidRAW 1.6.4 using the Flatpak version. It launches, but only shows the blank/minimized window.
-
Rolled RapidRAW back to version 1.6.3. Same behavior.
-
Removed the RapidRAW Flatpak and its application data and reinstalled it. No change.
-
Removed/reset RapidRAW cache and profile data. No change.
-
Removed the Flatpak version and installed the native Ubuntu/Debian
.debpackage instead. The native version does exactly the same thing, so this does not appear to be a Flatpak specific problem. -
Tried launching RapidRAW with
WEBKIT_DISABLE_DMABUF_RENDERER=1. No change. -
Tried launching it with
WEBKIT_DISABLE_COMPOSITING_MODE=1. No change. -
Tried forcing it through X11 instead of the normal Wayland path. It still opened to a blank window.
-
At one point RapidRAW reported
Frontend failed to report ready within timeoutin the terminal. -
On the NVIDIA desktop I changed from the NVIDIA 595 driver to the newer 610 open driver. No change.
-
Updated the matching NVIDIA Flatpak GL runtime, including
org.freedesktop.Platform.GL.nvidia-610-57-04. No change. -
Confirmed the same RapidRAW problem occurs on my AMD laptop, which is why I no longer think this is an NVIDIA-specific problem.
-
My desktop is running Zorin OS 18.1, using Wayland. WebKitGTK is currently version 2.52.6.
-
I then discovered that RustDesk is now showing almost the exact same blank/minimized-window behavior on the same system. I was able to resolve that by forcing software rendering.
-
RustDesk is installed as a Flatpak, version 1.4.9. If I start it normally, the window is blank. If I launch it with software rendering using
flatpak run --env=LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 com.rustdesk.RustDesk, RustDesk opens normally.
The RustDesk result is what makes me think this may be a graphics/rendering issue somewhere in Zorin OS 18.1 or the underlying Ubuntu graphics stack rather than a problem with RapidRAW itself.
Since this started around September 27 and is now affecting more than one application, I’m wondering if a recent system update changed something related to hardware acceleration, Mesa, Wayland, OpenGL/EGL, or another shared graphics component.
What do the wise minds here have to say on this issue? TIA
