I recently switched from Windows 10 to Zorin 18. I have two hard drives on my computer. During install I was able to install Zorin 18 on the smaller hard drive. My goal was to use that as the root and the second hard drive for all of my personal files. When I open file manager and click on other locations, I see Zorin OS on one hard drive and Data Drive (my second hard drive).
I tried copying personal files from an external hard drive to Data Drive but get the following: Error while copying to "Data Drive". The destination is read-only.
I tried changing the permissions using "Set Custom Permissions". Got the following message: The permissions could not be changed. Sorry, could not change the permissions of "Data Drive". Error setting permissions: Read=only file systems.
I am new to Zorin and entering commands. How to I resolve this issue?

Under disks in Zorin it is listed: Contents NTFS-Mounted at /media/---/Data Drive
Partition Type: NTFS/exFat/HDFS
It is set up so that You are the Owner?
Changing your data drive format to Ext4 will allow you to claim ownership and everything should work correctly from there forward. I've found Zorin (maybe all Linux) has problems with NTFS formatted disks, exactly as you describe. The owner of my data drive was determined to be root and nothing I could do would change that, and I couldn't change permissions, or ownership even when signed in as su.
