Hello again. I've not used Zorin (or anything) for quite some time, but thought I'd update my Zorin computer software and make a Rescuezilla backup, but I keep getting a message saying I can't.
The first photo should show where I'm trying to back up to on the USB drive, the second should be the message, the third should be what my USB drive looks like in Disks and the fourth shows the corresponding photo in the Zorin tutorial on this - only one partition showing, whereas mine has several - is this relevant?
I know it will be something simple and stupid, but be gentle with me!
From what I'm seeing in your screenshots, it seems like the USB is mounted in Zorin when you're trying to make these backups? If that's the case, you're going to want to unmount it (such as in the photo with the red minus button) and then try again.
With the drive having a mount point, I assume Rescuezilla is thinking that the drive is in use and doesn't want to cause any damage to the drive / files in the drive when it starts doing its thing.
The amount of partitions SHOULDN'T matter, although it is a bit odd seeing a USB with that many partitions. That being said, if you use them all for different things, I see no issue particularly with the drive itself.
I only see one USB drive. Is the drive to which you're attempting to save the backup the same as the one on which Rescuezilla is running? It may not like that. I haven't tried that specifically, but that stands out as a possibility to me.
Yes, I should've mentioned that as @Locklear93 said. You will need a seperate drive to backup to, rather than the drive that you're using to boot Rescuezilla from.
If the single USB drive does turn out to be the issue, you can rest assured that it's possible to use two USBs--one for Rescuezilla and one for a destination. I use a flash drive to boot Rescuezilla and a USB hard drive for work related disk images regularly.
I don't know if it's mounted or unmounted. I plug it in and boot from the USB drive to run Rescuezilla - does this mount it?
All I've put on this drive is Rescuezilla - do I need to format it and install Rescuezilla again? If so, formatted as what?
Yes, that's right. I thought this was how I'd used Rescuezilla months ago. Should I be saving the backup somewhere else? Might explain why it doesn't work,
I suspect that you are both right - I'll test it. But first, should I format this USB drive and reinstall rescuezilla? What form is best?
Thanks
As long as Rescuezilla is running, its USB should be fine. I'd recommend saving to another external drive if you have one.
@Locklear93 @applecheeks37 . Thanks, both - that was the problem! Once I got it set up with an external drive, I found 3 other backups from Rescuezilla, so that's what I'd been doing previously. My brain is very slow nowadays and my short-term memory shot and getting worse, so thanks again
Happy to help.
Glad you got it going
Don't worry about the slow brain, some days I walk outside and forget to put on shoes lately. It's great fun
