You really need to disable secure boot from bios, I think it could be the problem.
In bios also check your boot order
Since it's an ASUS, there's often an option called "Network Stack" in the BIOS. If it's enabled, the computer tries to look for an operating system on the network (PXE) before checking the hard drive, which explains the approximately 20-second delay observed.
my boot order only has "Ubuntu" nothing els, and I can't disable secure boot from the bios, it's greyed out
to disable it you need to set a bios password, after changing the option you can remove the password.
And read what I add about "Network Stack"
I did disable Network Stack, the first time I was in the BIOS,
and Secure Boot is now disabled within the BIOS, don't know what I did, but I did disable something above the secure boot I could not get to. but now it says it disabled, and the same with the network stack uief
and now what is you boot time ?
my boot time is 33-35sec still those 20sec for loader.
I did find in BIOS something calle
VT-D enabled
Intel AES-NI enabled
Intel Vizualisation technology enabled
could you give me the result of that
sudo efibootmgr -v
all seem OK for UEFI.
go in bios and try this
- Navigate to the “Boot” or “Advanced” section of the BIOS setup. The specific name and location will vary.
- Look for a setting labeled “Post Delay Time,” “POST Time Delay,” or something similar.
- Adjust the delay time to 2 seconds.
- Save the changes and exit the BIOS setup.
You can also check if you can update your BIOS on the asus website.
actually there was, 2 days ago, an update for the bios, when the asus ran win11, but I did not get around to install it, because I felt the win11 was sluggish, and then I put zorin on yesterday morning
I think you really need to instal this Bios update
I think I need to reinstall windows to do that, can't find anything for my laptop on the asus website and the auto search serialnumber driver program they have is for windows.. so I think I need to run back to win11 and have windows update do it for me, and then come back to zorin
you don't need to install windows, you can use ASUS Firmware Update/EZ Flash
uh I found it, and something called ez flash, I should be able to do it, but now here in denmark I am off to bed.. thank you soo much for the help so far
really appreciate it ![]()
Um...
Loader is filled with essential processes. This includes loading initramfs, the kernel and handoff to the kernel.
Thirty seconds to boot is fine. If you are pushing for faster than that, you are shooting yourself in the foot.
a loader with 20 seconds is enormous when I have 2.610s with a 11 years old laptop
Boot Loader Phase
There are several possible types of boot loaders and ways for the BIOS to obtain them.
A. A boot loader stored in the first sector of a hard disk, the Master Boot Record, or MBR. This may be GRUB or LILO or yaboot or others.
B. A boot loader stored on some other storage device, such as a CDR or USB flash drive.
C. A boot loader which uses the network, such as the Pre-Execution Environment (PXE). This code is normally stored on a ROM on the networking card itself.
The need for the initial parts of the bootloader code on the first part of a storage medium explains why some hard drives are 'bootable' and others are not.
The job of the boot loader is to begin the next phase, loading the kernel and an initial ram disk filesystem.
Loader times vary, not only machine to machine, but boot to boot.
If there is very little to load, a Loader Time can be quicker. If there is more to load, it will take longer.
No.
Twenty seconds is not enormous. Not by any measure.
Comparing it to a shorter time does not make it enormous.
Because the actual state of measurement is User Experience.
Not how it compares to the dissolution of imaginary quarks nor to the scale of the Universe.
My cell phone takes longer to boot than his computer does.
I understand your point of view, but his laptop is new...
2 days ago I have installed zorin on a fresh new laptop for my mother, and the boot was made in 15 seconds, and the loader took less than 2 sec, so yes for me a new laptop who take 20 sec for the loader is enormous
