Zorin OS 18.1 Pro
The updater presents what appears to be an empty update every day. It is 87.4 MB and the list of updates is empty. If I click install, the progress bar quickly fills and the dialog closes. A bit later, the same dialog re-appears. This will repeat until my keyboard is worn out. I now routinely click remind me later. I can find no reference to this in the forum. BTW other updates are installing without problems.
Can you please run in terminal
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
and post the output here?

After running your command line, I saw the firefox download msg. The prompt for the 87.4MB update appeared again and I said yes. I then rebooted and ran you command again. This time the firefox msg was missing. I imagine the issue is resolved. I'll post again if the 87.4 reappears. Thanks for your support. I appreciate it. Just to be complete, I will post the output when I ran your line again.

Unfortunately, it sounds like Firefox has been replaced by the Snap version on your system (this sometimes happens unintentionally because Ubuntu pushes its Snap packages).
If you're not happy with this, or if Firefox no longer works the way it used to, you can check whether Firefox is installed as a Snap using
snap list
You get a list with all snap packages.

Thanx for this explanation re firefox. I have used Firefox since before fire was discovered, but lately I have been having various problems including scrambled bookmarks. I don't want to use Chrome, but I guess I will. I have to use it anyway when I connect to my bank which only supports Chrome and Edge. Anyway, I haven't been prompted for the 48.7 MB update today.

I am uncertain of the best way to proceed here. I closed the original as solved about 13 days ago. I have not had a recurrence since then. But today, I have a new, very similar event happening. Everything looks the same except the size is slightly different.
Can you please run
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
again and post the terminal output here?
