Anyone having issues with the software updater? For the past two days on both of my Zorin installs it has ground to a complete halt. Starts looking for updates and behaves like I am on dial-up. Takes ages and ages querying repositories and downloading tiny packages excruciatingly slowly. I have left it going 20 minutes and 2MB update still hasn't completed so I end up cancelling it each time.
Tried with VPN on and off...no difference. Behaviour the same on two completely different installs.
The servers are currently overload. Even downloading small packages is taking forever. Unless you absolutely have to download something right now, it's best to wait a few days.
" Double updates on Ubuntu 24.04 typically occur due to phased rollouts , where the GUI Software Updater advertises packages before they are fully available for installation, while command-line tools like apt install ignore these phases and proceed immediately.
This discrepancy often leads to conflicting states where the GUI reports updates as available but fails to install them, or the system receives duplicate notifications for the same package at different times. Users frequently encounter "partial upgrade" errors or packages that appear held back in the GUI while the CLI shows them as ready to upgrade.
Phasing Mechanism : Updates are staged to spread server load, causing the GUI to notify users before the package is ready for mass installation.
GUI vs. CLI Conflict : The GUI adheres to phasing delays, whereas apt install forces the update, potentially bypassing the intended rollout schedule.
Resolution : Running sudo apt update followed by sudo apt upgrade can sometimes clear dependency conflicts, or users may need to wait for the phasing to complete before the GUI update notification aligns with the actual installation status.
If the issue persists, users can check specific package statuses using apt list --upgradable to identify stale entries or manually force updates with sudo apt full-upgrade , though this effectively beta tests the upgrade outside the standard phased schedule.
I'm assuming its due to the new version of Ubuntu as well as the new 7.0 kernel everyone downloading it should calm down in a few days ....hopefully...lol
there has also been alot of severe storms here in US that has caused a few problems as well
Experiencing the same issue on 18.1 Lite. Software updater starts serching for updates. Very short black screen, starts searching again, Very short black screen again, ... and app closes
