Solved [Set default apps?]

Hi. I'm trying to set default apps, e.g. VLC.
I've searched the forum and found this
" Aside from using the Default Selections in Settings, you can Right Click a certain mimetype and then choose "Open With..."
Click the button for "Set as Default" after selecting your preferred application."

The problem is, whatever way I approach Settings, I can't find Default Selections

If you're using Zorin OS 18, this has moved to Settings → Apps → Default Apps.

Or, when you right-click on it, select the "Open with" option and check the option at the bottom to "Always use for this file type". This will create an association based on the file extension, so you might need to repeat this for other media files that don't match i.e., mp4 and webm videos.

I'm on Zorin 17, waiting to be updated.

Settings/Apps doesn't show Default Apps

Right Click on what?
If I look at the list of Apps, VLC isn't even on there

Update found it under Settings, rather than applications.
However, it doesn't list VLC for either movies or music

Update 2. Tried clicking on VLC icon on desktop - nothing. Reinstalled it and now have VLC as an option. Thanks!

Hi, sorry this is not solved. It appears impossible to get Zorin18 to remember a default app. For example, I have a LibreOffice Base file (.odb) and Zorin does not remember to automatically open LibreOffice when I double click on it. Then, within LibreOffice, I have to open a jpg file, which has previously been associated with 'ImageViewer' in Zorin18, but I still get the prompt asking with which program to open it. I have seen the posts about problems with Snap/Apt and so on, but I just have simpley installed Zorin18 and have no deep knowledge of what is underneath. I just need to use the system. There must be some way to tell the system which programs to use! Please help.
