[SOLVED] Videos on streaming websites say no video is available

Hello, I just installed Zorin 17.3 a couple days ago on my Fujitsu Lifebook A553/H. This is my first ever experience with Linux.

Today I went to a streaming website just to check if those would still work as well as Youtube and Bilibili still do, but every single movie I clicked on said that the media was unavailable no matter which server I choose. I then went to other sites of the same nature, and all of them had the same problem. What should I do?

Which browser do you use and in which package format is the browser installed ((Zorin package, flatpak, snap...)?

@forpli I'm using firedragon, and the format was flatpak.

And do you have installed multimedia-codecs, e.g. Zorin restricted extras or ubuntu restricted extras?

You can install them with
"sudo apt install ubuntu-restricted-extras"

Can you please check if you can play videos in brave which is installed as .deb package?

And which streaming website makes the problems?

@forpli I'm not sure about multimedia-codecs or the extras. If you can tell me how to check or install them, I'll thank you.

I'll try it on brave right away. I'll try catflix.su, topmovie.tv, putlocker.gy, and souptogoto.to

@forpli on Brave does indeed work.

I just installed with the command line you suggested, but now it has something titled "configuring ttf-mscorefonts-installer" in the terminal that needs me to select OK, but I don't know how to do so.

EDIT: Just figured out how to select ok

Press tab and then return

Since the videos work in Brave, it is not due to the multimedia codecs but to the package format. Flatpaks often require additional authorisations as they are not integrated into the system.
You can install the flatseal program to manage the permissions for your installed flatpaks.
Then try out which switches you need to activate so that the videos are played, e.g. grant access to system files or all users files.

I got an error: "E: Unable to locate package flatseal"

EDIT: Wait! I think i found it in the software store

Sorry that was my mistake.

It's fine! Your suggestion worked all the same! Thank you so much!

Since I don't use flatpaks, I'm not sure if the installation of ffmpeg-full flatpak might help you instead of accessing system files so that the browser has access to multimedia codecs. Maybe someone else knows.
The setting to grant the browser access to all system files is not so good for security reasons. Perhaps someone knows in which directory the multimedia codecs are stored, then you could only grant access to this. Or is there a slider for Multimedia or similar?
Some flatpak browsers have extensions for multimedia codecs. Perhaps the browser you are using also has this?
