It would be helpful if the operating system were always specified when creating a thread to avoid follow-up questions, which require additional effort on the part of the helpers. Especially after the release of a new version, it is often unclear whether a user is already using the new or the previous Zorin version.
For example, an additional entry for operating system
Zorin 17 Core
Zorin 17 Pro
Zorin 17 Lite
Zorin 17 Lite Pro
Zorin 17 Education
and Zorin 18 (maybe also Zorin 16) accordingly as well as Other OS.
This is actually already possible in a Way. You can use the Tag Option when creating a new Thread and typing in for Example zorin-os-17
The Thing is: The People would have to use it actively.
Exactly, but this feature is used far too rarely. That's why I wondered whether the optional tags could be used as mandatory tags for selecting the operating system version. I am looking for ways to make the work here in the forum a little easier.
Perhaps the devs could extend the User Profile to add Version as well as Edition.
Yes, that is a good idea. However, since not all users have filled out their profile, especially new forum users, and some users have more than one zorin version in their profile (e.g. use them on different computers), the question of which Zorin version they are using often arises anyway. That's why I think it would be better to have to select it when creating a thread.
I think the same issue arises: the user must fill it out and many do not think to.
If we create a sticky thread reminding users, those who won't put it in their profile won't read that notice.
It may seem thrifty to seek a neat solution. But in the end, I think the troubleshooters must resign themselves to asking for specs and versions.
And, you will encounter users that do not know if they are on Lite or Core, too.
I agree, if users are making posts in the Feedback, General Help, Hardware, or Installation forums, they should be required to pick their OS from dropdown, in order to make the post.
It boggles my mind, why so many users don't state that info, from the very start, they think we are mind-readers. While troubleshooting, they also say, "It didn't work." I'm like, what didn't work, what did you do?
Lex Luther asks Otis this very question, Luther doesn't like his answer.
![]()
It should be a field without which the thread cannot be created, as is the case with the title and the assignment to a category.
This is a good idea. Let's suggest that to the ZG.
PCLOS Debian forum (not a Discourse one) has a General Help section, Software Section, then separate sections for each DE (Plasma, Cinnamon, MATE, xfce, budgie). Would it be simpler to have a new setup that reflects Core, Education, Pro, Pro Lite, Lite? Just a thought. These could then have sub-sections in each for Installation (split into Zorin only and dual boot),Applications, General Help, Hardware, Customisation, Tutorials specific to each version (Lite, Core).
