Suggestions: Zorin Menu new app badge & dynamic scrollbar

I made some visuals to showcase a change I think would be very useful for users. It was inspired by the ArcMenu extension, as this small feature is present there, but not in Zorin menu (as far as I know).

Pretty much every time I install something new, I open the menu to find it, and often times it's not clear in which category it would show up. So having a visual feedback would provide a better user experience. Also following Zorin's themes it would be stylish and blend right in :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

The other suggestion has to do with the thick scrollbar that shows up in Zorin Menu once there are too many categories listed. It seems a bit too close to the arrows on its left, and I suggest making it change its size based on whether or not the mouse is hovering over it (like in the file manager for example - the scrollbar is a thin line by default). I think the menu would look more polished this way (it irks me a bit to see that thick long line whenever I open it, so I just keep the categories at number 9 to make sure it doesn't show).

You and I are different animals.

The very thin scrollbar that tries to hide from your mouse cursor irks me to no end. I disable the hiding and adjust the .css to a thickness I do not have to fine tune my mouse to get the cursor on the thing.

Well the good thing is there is an option to choose in Zorin Appearance! Interface -> Overlay Scrollbars. I assumed this suggested feature would also be affected by this option, so everyone can have the scrollbar thickness they want

Overlay is for the hiding and appearing scrollbars - but does not affect the width of the scrollbar.

The overlay is also why your screenshot shows the scrollbar as on top of the category button, close to the arrows, rather than beside it.
This is hard coded into GTK, though.

Yeah I worded that incorrectly. It doesn't exactly control the width per se, but I imagine it would still allow users to show the scrollbar at all times in the Zorin Menu, in case this suggestion ever gets implemented, and we get a thin scrollbar like in the file manager. Hidden by default, shows a thin line when scrolling, and expanding to full width when hovering over it

For Your first Thing with the Notification Sign, there would be the Option to use instead of the Zorin Start Menu ArcMenu. That offers these kind of Indicators.

Yes I know, I have been using ArcMenu for a long time now, but wanted to try out Zorin Menu again, and noticed the "new app" badges never showed up. So I decided to make a suggestion to the devs :dizzy:

Maybe they will add it in a future Update, who know's.

OMG, you are so right, I absolutely hate that junk, erks me to no end. Just when I think I'm holding onto the scrollbar, no I'm not, it disappeared, cause it got a masters degree in trolling!

Keep in mind, I'm on OS 16, so that means this issue has been present since then at least, and it sounds like its still going on with OS 18. What good does a scrollbar do me, if it keeps disappearing.

I'll tell you something else, if you use Flatpak Steam as I am, and your in full screen mode. If you hover over the right border with the cursor, and click and hold to move the scrollbar, oops sorry, you didn't grab the scrollbar, move a half mm to your left.

Frustration overload!

The issue is not present in Zorin 18 without you being able to change it. While I didn't test how showing the full scrollbar works on everything (only files app), the option is there, so that's good news for you!
