System freezes when using DRI_PRIME=1 with the dedicated GPU

When I run an application using the dedicated GPU with this command:

DRI_PRIME=1

the system freezes, and I’m forced to shut down the computer using the power button.

My device has two GPUs:
the first is the integrated Intel HD Graphics 5500,
and the second is the dedicated AMD ATI Radeon HD 8890M / R9 M275X / M375X.

I would backup any critical data before messing.

You could take a Look in the BIOS and check if You can set up the dGPU as primary Output.

Make sure Secure Boot is turned off in the BIOS.
