I installed Zorin OS on a family member's computer, and they have been experiencing persistent intermittent crashes. The system will completely lock up and require a hard restart. The OS install is completely stock and is the only OS on the drive.
I followed the steps on this official help page with no results, which should rule out the possibility of faulty hardware. I also checked the BIOS and drivers are up to date and tested with all non-essential peripherals disconnected.
Checking the logs, there are no errors or warnings whatsoever leading up to the freeze. Initially suspecting this could be related to power states, I edited the grub.cfg and disabled VT-x in the BIOS with no results.
The freezing appears to occur when a heavy network connection is attempted, such as loading a heavy web page, opening a large document, or connecting to a Zoom video call.
