Yesterday, I noticed that the Zorin OS taskbar has moved to the top of the screen (was on the bottom before) and there are some changes to the displayed buttons.
I looked up this topic extensively but have not found a working solution to this issue. I tried reinstalling Zorin OS appearance and Extensions. In Zorin OS Appearance app, clicking on the desired screen layout does nothing. In Extensions, changing the settings of Zorin Taskbar (altering position from top to bottom or the sides) does nothing. The Taskbar seems to have defaulted to the top and there seems to be some bug preventing it from being changed again.
I have encountered this problem before which occurred after an idle screen function was used. The only thing that would fix this issue was a full OS reinstall. I would like to avoid having to do that again.
Please have some patience with me as I am not very well versed in GNU/Linux and have recently moved over to Zorin OS from Windows, but I'm trying my best to learn.
ugh ive seen the zorin taskbar get stuck like that after idle/suspend weirdness too. appearance + extensions doing nothing usually means the extension state file is half broken rather than the setting itself.
in my experience worth trying from a terminal: gnome-extensions disable zorintaskbar@zorinos.com then log out/in, then enable it again. if that still leaves it glued to the top, reset the dconf key for the panel position (something under /org/gnome/shell/extensions/zorin-taskbar/ if i remember right) with dconf-editor, or just dconf reset -f /org/gnome/shell/extensions/zorin-taskbar/ and then pick the layout again in appearance.
probably dont need a full reinstall. might also check youre not logged into a weird temporary session (top right menu) after the idle glitch.
Could You make a Picture of it? It might be that it isn't acually the Zorin Taskbar. It might be the default Gnome Top Bar. To be sure with that, a Picture of it would be helpful.
I tried both of those things.
Disabling the Zorin taskbar seems to break the GUI and I had to reinstall it from terminal. On re-install, however, it's still glued to the top.
I tried the dconf terminal command and it didn't seem to do anything, still ignored all my layout picks in Zorin-appearance. Maybe I'm missing something?
Disabling the Zorin taskbar usually doesn't cause any problems; however, if you uninstall it via the terminal, the desktop will also disappear. For this reason, the option to remove the Zorin taskbar - as well as many other GNOME system extensions - is grayed out/not offered in the settings of the Extension Manager and dconf.
Your screenshot shows the gnome topbar at the top of the screen, not Zorin taskbar.
Do you have installed other user third-party gnome extensions? If yes, disable them and test.
Yes actually, I did install Citrix workspace. Could that have done it?
Edit: you are correct. I uninstalled the ICA client and it fixed the problem upon restart. I see there was another issue posted regarding Citrix. I'll keep that in mind. Thank you.
Yes, citrix workspace with app protection can disturb the Zorin taskbar. Install citrix workspace without the app protection component.
