The Zorin Store keeps telling me Telegram needs to be updated

Can you please try:

sudo apt clean && sudo apt autoremove

killall gnome-software

rm -r ~/.local/share/gnome-software

Try launching Software again.

Had same issue, followed a wise Man's advice and it was fixed.
You can click the Software center not responding to see the thread.
Please mark issue solved if it works, and let's hope it does...
