To plasma or not to plasma

I think you're misconstruing "target" here. It's still standard Linux. The custom stuff I was referring to is stuff like their CPU/GPU load monitor. They know what they put in their machines, and their monitors WILL pick that up. It might miss your GPU from another manufacturer, in which case it's no different than if you download a monitoring utility on Zorin that doesn't work and remove it for one that does. Think of it less as "OS targets specific hardware" and more as "OS includes utilities meant for specific hardware."

That said, if it makes you uncomfortable, there's no reason to bother with it when there are alternatives available and on the way.

Ditto.

When I read the title of the thread, I thought this was going to be about Plasma TV's. Now that I'm here, & this thread was spawned out of the slightly off topic variety, I might as add my own.

Believe it or not, I still have my 60" 1080P Plasma TV from 2010! Since then, I purchased 2 LED TV's VA panels, one was 1080P, and the other was 4K. Neither of them looked remotely as good as my living room Plasma display.

VA panels are such garbage folks. Sure, yes their budget offerings, but you still pay 400 to 550 dollars for a 50"-55" TV. You get cheaper colors and clarity then IPS, OLED, or Plasma, and LED's die and colors fade after 3-years. Sounds like money wasted to me!

The only bad thing about the Plasma TV, is its only 1080P, but does have a 60 hertz refresh rate, but its glossy panel requires blackout curtains for windows, otherwise say hello to reflections!

The good thing however, is the colors on my Plasma display are rich and vibrant! That has been the dominating factor, that has beaten both newer TV's I've owned, as well as previous monitor displays I've used.

I've never owned an OLED display, so nothing top tier to beat a Plasma display. I only just last year got a new Samsung smartwatch, that uses an OLED display!

Well, once I got my new 32" monitor from Dell this year, that uses a 4K 144 hertz IPS display panel, now I finally have a display that matches the deep rich colors of a Plasma, but at higher resolution and refresh rate, while drawing far less power.

The 2 largest negatives of a Plasma display are, they weigh a ton, (my 60" weighs 100 pounds!) and they draw a lot of power. I don't use the Plasma a lot these days, but everyone said Plasma's died in 5 years, yeah well, mines 15-years old, still runs fine. lol

Now back to your KDE Plasma electrifying delicious discussions.

Sorted friend.

Well, in Germany the Clocks are ticking slower ...

I would think August/September. As far as I know the Full Freeze is not done yet. But this will be an interesting Debian Release with Gnome 48 and Plasma 6.3.
