Hello there,
I have some issues getting Zorin to run properly. I got it running on an old mini pc, but it was running very sluggish and had terrible sound problems.
Now I am trying to get my old HoloPorts to use for my kids. Holoport on the left.
On this device I have some weird issues. It has taken me quite some time to figure out what is going on, as I am totally new to Zorin and I can't fix it.
If I boot from the installation USB, I end up with a screen that shows a background picture. The cursors can be moved out of the monitor. Nothing else works. I turned the port on and off, which only triggered a sleep/wake cycle. Thereafter, I got everything shown that is needed to install the OS. The installation went fine, but after the first boot-up, it was the same as with booting from the USB to install, just with a different background picture. The cursor is movable. Triggering a sleep/wake cycle did not change anything. I am basically stuck on this.
I tried booting into live mode. Same thing. Desktop, background picture, cursor. Sleep/Wake brings up the option to install or live mode, but only after an s/w-cycle. Going into live mode, I ended up with the same behavior, except that the right mouse button gave me some options, like display settings.
Getting in there shows the problem. For some reason, Zorin OS is detecting 2 displays. The primary display was set to some internal one as primary. I have no clue what this is. The secondary display was the actual one connected to the holoport. Fixing this in live mode was no big deal—just turning off the internal display or switching the primary one.
This is not possible with the installed version, as I can't see the login screen. It is most probably shown on the internal one. I tried to log in blindly but failed.
There is no option in BIOS that would relate to an internal display.
What can I do?
I just tried another time to log in blindly, after the s/w cycle, and I managed to get in. I could do the same as with live modus. Furthermore, I thought I could fix it, but it did not survive a reboot.
Please help me out on this one.
Edit: I still have no clue how, but I am able to log in blindly after a few tries. It appears that deactivating the internal display sticks through reboot, but the settings seem not to apply to the login screen. For now, I will use the automated login. Not a suitable solution, as I need a second user account.
