Two Zorin OS 18 issues

The first bug is that the LibreOffice Draw can't open pdf files. It just frozen, and the system will popup a message saying "it's not responding, wait or close?" The only option is to close. Waiting will not get to anywhere. This is not happening on Zorin OS 17, but only on Zorin 18. I reinstalled Zorin multiple times using default options, updated, no other things installed but all default.

The second bug is my freshly installed Zorin OS 18 can't print properly on my Brother MFC9340CDW printer on LAN. It sometimes can print the first page, then nothing else came out the printer. Or the printer just spinning and showing receiving data, and then goes silent without anything printed out. It is not happening on Zorin OS 17, only version 18. Tried multiple fresh installation of Zorin 18 but the same. The Zorin 18 installation is using all default options. updated. No extra apps installed. No configuration changed. The printer is picked up by Zorin itself from the LAN. The same printer is working correctly on Windows 11, Linux Mint 22.3, latest Raspberry Pi OS. It's tested when Zorin failed to print, no printer reboot, just printed from Windows, Linux Mint, Pi OS etc right after Zorin failed printing.

Thanks

Sorry for the mistake. I have tested the LibreOffice Draw with other pdf files and it can open them correctly. The one it can't open is a pdf file I have edited with OnlyOffice desktop edition. Might be some compatibility issue. Still trying to figure out.

In respect of your Brother Printer issue, can you check the Properties | Driver details? If it is showing anything with 'driverless' in the description, then this would explain your issue.
Take a look at my video on how to install a Brother Printer without needing to use Brother's installation tool:

You should also use sudo system-config-printer to add a printer which is not present in Zorin 18. Install it via Synaptic Package Manager.

Before adding a printer you should disable autodiscovery or you will keep getting multiple entries of your printer:

Hi, I don't use OnlyOffice, but as a general rule you can't use a text processor to edit a .pdf. Similarly, LibreOffice Draw can view .pdf files and can only really be used to recover .svg files from a corrupt pdf which is what I had to do when I suffered a hard drive failure whilst modifying a mock AS Physics paper.

If your pdf is corrupt you can repair it with pdftk (install it via Synaptic Package Manager).

Once installed, open a terminal, navigate to the location of the problematical pdf and enter:

pdftk broken.pdf output fixed.pdf

(replace 'broken' with the actual name of pdf)

The only true way to edit a .pdf is by using a pdf editor.

The only non-commercial pdf editor I have recently discovered is in Turkish.

You can download it from my cloud here:

I've edited the thread title as I don't think they are bugs of the OS.

@Huike I think best if you create a new separate thread for your printer issue. You can (move) cut-and-paste your second paragraph of your OP there.

Thanks guys. Very helpful suggestions. I have installed the Brother driver using the driver install tool and it worked. I was using Zorin 17 and never installed anything but the same printer worked perfectly. So I thought there might be an issue with Zorin 18. Any way, appreciate you guys' help.
