Unofficial Manual for Zorin 18 Core Mk.I - comic relief font

Currently at Page 79 of the new manual. Stay tuned! I don't know if it will be ready for release date as still quite a lot to do. Currently at the top half of 'System Tools' Menu'.

Just an update. Been ploughing through a few more hours today and discovered my biggest 'faux pas'. The clue is in the font. I forgot to make it system wide for the screenshots so will be prioritising that before I proceed further. Currently reached the section where I go into detail about Zorin Appearance.

Good work! Can't wait for you to release this.

Progress Update. I nearly skipped a section in Appearance. I can't believe how complex/long list there is associated with Zorin Tiling Shell Settings!!!!

A Homer exclamation of Haaa!

{Admission time, I have been busy setting up my new Fairphone 6 today. My Fairphone 3+ has seen better days. Lately the snow screen has been recurring fervently and camera focus all over the place).

Just to add, for those of us who don't like snap packaging, that is not what snap in Tiling shell setting means! Currently on around page 110. From the start I spotted a glaring error of including a whole section regarding Synaptic and Gdebi, how to inspect tarballs in the Live (Try Zorin) desktop section. This will be moved to a new section of the manual, post installation, especially regarding login choices between Wayland and xorg.

Do you know wheather the nice new function for tiling shell in Zorin 18 can be set up in Zorin 17 with the gnome extension tiling shell?

First, I don't know, but I suspect not as it is a backend rewrite of Zorin OS; there are even two more items in Zorin Appearance that aren't present in 17. (and I am not referring to layouts.

Does anyone want to view the 'rought and ready' .odt file I have done so far?
It is far from complete.

Swarfendor. I can speak for many to say Thank You & please, take your time. There's no rush. Follow the Zorin motto. It will be ready when it's ready!

Well, take a look. Please note, the Contents Page has not been updated. That will happen when it is completed.

The link is to the folder - open it to access the file.

What is interesting is that it isn't viewable on line, I get some weird message that it exceeds the limit of my 'Document Server' - so you will have to download to view it!

Good work Swarfendor437

Since this is still work in progress, may I make a suggestion: It would be great if using the Zorin default fonts for the screenshots and in the manual, so that it can match the look and feel of Zorin OS. If it requires a lot of rework then no worries at all, continue with the current ones.

Have a good day :victory_hand:

Hi @littlekun ,

I decided to do an accessible copy first. There is nothing worse for someone with vision issues where text is readable but the visuals which contain text don't. When the first one is complete, the standard version will indeed contain default font in the images and the text will be in Bitstream Vera Sans font.

Oh and an update, I swapped out the .odt with the pdf of it which is viewable online

Downloaded the 343 page document last night. Will hopefully have time to read tonight.

It's not finished/tidied yet!

That would be nice!

Just starting to continue, and interestingly TeXTinfo (Gnome Terminal) has now been replaced with a more decent Terminal! Looks like Team Zorin have been looking at this Unofficial Manual too!

Update. I have completed the Menu Sections of the Manual. I am now at the 'Settings' stage (just started the first page). Please note that as of yet I have not removed the TexTInfo (Gnome Terminal) I will do this in due course. I am concentrating on a logical layout of the manual, more logical than the one I created for Zorin 17! Note that I missed some live screenshots of the Live Session in respect of the right hand side of the Dash (the 'System Tray') you will notice a little blue/green icon of Remmina Remote that does not (did not) show up in live mode:

Spotted lots of errors in the last upload. Have recently found out that SoftMaker Office is still behind when it comes to .odt. Current version is 1.3, SoftMaker are still on 1.0. When I was attempting to copy images grabbed by Spectacle into the TextMaker 2026 Beta software into the .odt file it would jump to the cover page of the Manual! aaaarrrrgggghhh! Still some way to go - the link above is still valid. Takes you to a folder where the manual resides. Please let me know if the exported .pdf is looking screwy at all. I'm taking a break after spending some time on it today.
