Updating packages using terminal

While trying to force XScreensaver to update as its version 6.8 not version 5.45 per zorin (lock screen toggle not working) this is what I get. dad@dad-Zorin : sudo apt upgrade
Waiting for cache lock: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend. It is heWaiting for cache lock: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend. It is held by process 1063 (packagekitd) any help would be great!

Only one process can get a lock on the package server at a time.

What the above message means is that you ran a command in terminal that accesses APT while you have Synaptic Package Manager or Gnome Software Store still open.

Close any package managers or other open running terminal windows, then try running the command.

Probably less common, but it could also have happened if:

They ran the update/upgrade command in one terminal and it's on the request user confirmation phase (e.g. 'Y' for "Yes" and 'N' for "No")...

...and...

... they try to do the same thing in another terminal window.
