Hi all,
I have been left behind with 16.3 core version. However, I have modified many things in theme and settings and upgrading from settings is not possible.
is there any way to upgrade by changing sources from focal to what?
thanks
Are you wishing to upgrade to 17.3? I don't think you can extend the life of 16.3 as it is a fork of Ubuntu 20.04 which comes to end of life at end of this month.
I don't know if I have understood your question correctly: You wanted to upgrade Zorin, but it failed with the Zorin upgrader due to added ppas? If so, you would need to disable or remove the added foreign sources before upgrading, then update apt, then upgrade. And you should check if the added sources are supported in jammy when you want to use them after the upgrade.
Welcome to the Forum!
You can't upgrade from the settings. For this, You need to use the Zorin OS Upgrader Tool. You can install it in the Terminal with sudo apt install zorin-os-upgrader
Because of Your Modifications it depends what You have done. Gnome Extensions could be a Problem when they are not compatible with Gnome 43 from the Zorin 17 Core Desktop. So, I would suggest at least to turn them off. The same with Themes. And when You have added third-party PPA's (and the Software of these), it would be good to disable them, too.
ok done. reverted to zorin theme and disable tweaks. No need to disable ppas. However, a crash took at the very end, breaking my while installation.
manage to overcome through boot recovery and dpkg.
Now I am on 17.3
thank you all!!
I'm glad that it worked
But for anyone running into this thread in the future, I would also recommend disabling any PPAs that you may have added, as this has been a common source of problems while upgrading. Just to be extra safe that everything goes as smoothly as possible.
I'm marking @Ponce-De-Leon's answer as the solution for this thread since it contains the most accurate steps to get this done.
I noticed that before actual upgrading process started, a message on how many packages will be removed, updated etc ...it mentioned that 4 ppas will be removed.
I commented by myself ppas that had no candidate or were not signed for update in 16.3.
Yeah, it's just best to disable them to avoid issues and add these later. Since they are third party repositories, it's impossible to guarantee that they'll be compatible with the new base of Zorin OS and that might cause other issues.
