Using UFW (graphical version)--How do I set it up so IRC works?

Hello, I'm a noob.

UFW (Uncomplicated Firewall for other noobs like me), which I reached by simply typing 'Firewall' in the Zorin start button thing, looks good, but I'm unsure about using it with IRC.

I tried seeing which apps were already set by going to the terminal:
:~$ ufw app list
ERROR: You need to be root to run this script

As a noob, I'm not sure I want to have root opened now.

Can anyone give me some setup tips for UFW (either terminal or through the graphical interface) that will deny incoming connections other than those of IRC and some of the other basic things like updates and such? These MIGHT be set already, but I can't see the list with ufw app list since I don't have root.

I appreciate any help!

Hi, you do have access to become root, you are missing the sudo at the start of the command.

In respect of the GUI, click on the 'add rule', there is a humungous list of predefined rules to allow certain ports to be opened for different apps.

Personally I will never use IRC again as it is a gateway for all kinds of malfeasance.
