I use ZorinOS 18.1 Core on Wayland. I don't want to switch back to the X11 because of the DisplayPort audio issues. but when I was using x11, there was no issue with VLC. I use an RTX GPU, Nvidia 580 drivers. the problem is: when I watch a video on VLC, for some reason, it glitches. like.. Idk how to explain but it basically glitches. the sound is normal but the video is bad. on totem, there is no issue btw. I tried to disable hardware acceleration but did not work. does anybody know how to fix this?
Plus VLC.
Wayland is newer and still a work in progress whereas X11 is mature and stable.
So that rendering pipleine, Nvidia and Wayland, running VLC is incomplete and unstable.
What you can do is run VLC as X11, keeping Wayland for everything else;
QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb vlc
Is VLC installed as Flatpak or .deb/APT Package? Do You have installed all the Codec PAckages?
Very diplomatic ![]()
flatpak. now I will try to install as apt from the software store. hope it works
Im having even worse problems on x11. the sound glitches because I use DisplayPort for sound. but there is no problem on wayland.
nope. didnt work neither. still the same issue
maybe you can have a look at this for your DisplayPort under X11, it's just a idea...
Do You have installed all the Codecs?
thanks for the suggestion
my problem was not a non-sound thing. the sound was glitching. It was absolutely killing my ears. and this problem still remains on x11 (at least on my computer) but wayland is so good about that. thats why I dont want to switch to x11 again
IIII think so??? bruh lemme check
well... I see that I havent... I just installed the ubuntu-restricted-extras package which should download all of the codecs. but vlc is still glitching on wayland. (I might sent it twice sorry I messed up with the website)
You're fired. J/K I doubt many here haven't messed up.
Have You installed the Packages what You can get in Gnome Software, too? When You open it and scorll down to the End, You see a Button called ''Codecs''. When You click on it, You get an Overview with available Codec Packages.
also the command did not work too... but I just noticed something. the video glitches only when I move my cursor. If I dont move the mouse, so the cursor disappears, video plays flawlessly without any glitches. should I do something more spesific maybe?
maybe you can try forcing wayland to use Nvidia gpu.
Take a look at this, the Gnome part
