Screen shows @@@@@@@@@@@@ on black screen after waking up. Whole windows from sessions are gone, crashed and I have to log in and start again. What can i do?
Can you please tell us brand/model/specs of your computer?
Did you try to switch to Xorg? Logout and at login click on your username then a cog wheal appears at the bottom right corner. There select "Zorin desktop on Xorg".
You could test if it helps to go manually into suspend by pressing the button in start menu.
Welcome to the Forum!
Are Secure Boot and Fast Boot in BIOS disabled? If Windows is installed: Is Fast Start-Up in Windows disabled?
Is this a common Behavior or does this happen only when used a specific Program?
First of all thank you for warm welcome and thank you for being patient with my reply.
I took time to try Xorg so i can post a confident reply.
I use Acer Aspire A515-56 that has 11th Gen Intel Core i7-1165G7 @ 2.80GHz, 2x8GiB SODIMM DDR4 Synchronous 3200 MHz, TigerLake-LP GT2 [Iris Xe Graphics].
When it comes to Xorg it seems to solve the problem but i would like to use Wayland nonetheless.
Speaking of Wayland, it seems to be a common Behaviour, not tied to a specific app. Only apps i ran at the time of this happening were Brave and Telegram.
Suspending system manually did nothing in my test, it happened only when i left the laptop unattended long enough for it to go to sleep by itself.
Secure Boot, Fast Boot and Fast Start-Up are setting i am yet to check. I will report back on this when i do.
So the easiest method to avoid crashes would be to use XOrg or to go manually into suspend when you leave your computer and to disable automatic suspend.
You can also search for kernel parameters that may help but they are very hardware specific.
Seems like i might just stay with the XOrg as you suggested.
Just out of curiosity, how would one go about searching for kernel parameters?
You can search in internet for solutions for your Acer model or similar ones that have problems with waking up after suspend.in linux.
Kernel parameters are short commands/terms that are added to the file /etc/default/grub, usually at line
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash".
This is what happens when I set the computer to sleep after x minutes of inactivity and when i come back on Xorg
Hmm ... Okay, let's try it with reinstalling the Zorin Desktop and the Login Screen:
sudo apt reinstall zorin-os-desktop gdm3
