Where to find the save files for DuckStation in Zorin OS? As well as renaming the file type like .cmd to .mem

Hi, just finished playing Suikoden in Duckstation and wanted to import my save file for my Suikoden II play. However, I can't seem to do that as I am having a hard time finding my save file in Duckstation. I tried manually saving the file and renaming it and saving it into the Suikoden II folder and renaming the save file per instruction but I couldn't see how to look at the save file if its .mem or .cmd and how to change it as well as renaming doesn't show what file type the save is.

Thank you so much!

  1. Go to your DuckStation memcards folder:
    %USERPROFILE%\Documents\DuckStation\memcards
  2. Launch Suikoden II in DuckStation , make a quick in-game save, then close DuckStation.
  3. Find the newly created .mcd file in that folder (e.g., Suikoden II (USA)_1.mcd ). This is the memory card file for Suikoden II.
  4. Rename your old Suikoden save file to exactly match that name (including the _1 part), and change its extension to .mcd .
  • If your old save is .gme or .mcr , use MemCardRex (free tool) to convert it to .mcd first.
  1. Copy your renamed .mcd file into the memcards folder and overwrite the existing file.

Hi Gerald,

Thank you for the fast response, I greatly appreciate that.

The problem however is I installed Duckstation using the Software app in Zorin and thereto could not located the Duckstation folder under Documents. How do you Locate it? Much appreciated.

Normally, these files are hidden. To access them, use the shortcut Ctrl + H.

Look for a folder named .var.

Open the folder in the following order:
app → org.duckstation.DuckStation → data → duckstation

bios: Place the BIOS files (such as scph5500.bin) here.

memcards: You will find the memory card files (.mcd) here.

savestates: For save states.

settings: For program settings.

This is what I see.

I downloaded duckstation here:

It's easy. Step one: Forget everything. Step two: Download the Resident Evil game. Choose any part of it. Step three: Launch the game.

If you encounter any problem, I am here to help you. :rose:

hahahahahaha, damn. I'm screwed huh? guess I have to use my microsoft pc for this and play suikoden I from start to finish again.

The problem is the duckstation is running in sandbox (snap package). I don't know or how to edit its permission files of snap (ugh!)

BUT

Have you tried PPSSPP (yes that what it's called)? It's availble as flatpak and with flatpak you can with flatseal give PPSSPP the right permission.

Thank you for the response, uhm... I'm really knew to Zorin and Linux as I have always been a windows user. I only migrated after Windows 11. Hence, I could not understand what PPSSPP is, hehehehe.

  1. search software center for playstation, PPSSPP should appear. Install it.
  2. seach for flatseal in software center and install it.
  3. Open flat seal and give PPSSPP permission to your home directory.
  4. Launch PPSSPP

Thank you for this, however, I was playing Suikoden I on Play Station not on Play Station Portable. Does this mean I can still play the PlayStation .bin file? Sorry noob at this as I just started missing those games I play as a kid.

No problem. No need to apologize. We all started at one point being new :).
I don't play Playstation games so I can't answer that (I'm into Steam games).

Thank you! Will continously try to learn as I am too comfortable with Windows due to it being the only OS before that can run Steam games. However, Linux is catching up.

I found on Duckstation an appimage of it:
https://github.com/stenzek/duckstation/releases/download/latest/DuckStation-x64.AppImage

AppImage fiiles a like Windows .msi files, so a simple double click should launch it. I can recommend GearLever from the Software Store to handle appimages. With it you don't have to run the snap package which runs in sandbox.

You meant portable Program Versions on Windows, didn't You?

Aye. I'm multitasking again, so it was an error. It happens often when I'm multitasking.

Right-click on the downloaded appimage, select properties and enable "allow launching as program" .

How do I locate where it is installed?

The app is not installed. It is there where you download it, usually in your Downloads folder.

Gear lever or other programs can help you to create a launcher in the start menu if you like to have one. Otherwise you can put that file to any place you like, e.g. on your desktop and launch it from there.
