Why will it not recognize my pass log in

Why will it not recognize my pass log in and it will not let me change it either. ideas please

Hi, welcome to Zorin OS

If you're talking about changing your password, there are some hard coded restrictions like minimum length and complexity. You can ignore those only during the installation of Zorin OS itself, but not afterwards.

While in Zorin OS, click the :zorin: logo bottom of screen. Then click on settings. Once in settings scroll down till you see "users" and click on it. This area is your one stop shop, for setting up your password, and changing your password as well.

Welcome to the Forum!

Do You mean that Your Login Password doesn't work? If yes: Did You checked, if maybe the CAPS Lock Key is active?

Hi
Thank you all for your replies and sorry I am a newbie here after leaving Windows 10 behind. What is happening is that when I try to install something from the software store it is occasionally asking for me to "Authentication Required" I assumed that this was my password but it does not accept that so I do not know what else I am to do. I have tried the "Pass Key" provided by Zorin but that does not work either. Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you

Did someone else do the install? When it wants that authentication, it needs to be someone with admin rights I believe, so if you're using a normal user account, or if you somehow set a root password different from your account password, that might explain it.

In my case, my personal password DOES work for installations, as my account has admin rights.

I just noticed you said "occasionally" it asks. Does this mean sometimes it doesn't? That may be another indicator, since some programs can be installed just for you, under your home directory, and others may not.

The login key is also (mostly) the store key. Did you prehaps have numlock turned off or capslock turned on by accident ?

I see in your Profile against Zorin editions you have "Pro, None".
As you paid for Pro you can get help from Team Zorin using help request here:

Okay. Yes, it asks for Your Password. That one what You use for log in and what You have created during the Installation Process.

Thank you that is what I tried but that does not work and it will not let me change it.

I am not so fed up with Zorin that I what to go back to Windows 10 but do not know how to remove Zorin and install Windows 10 it Windows when put the media in and switched on and pressed f10 it would then take to the start screen and from there I could install Windows again from the media USB but it does not seem to work the same with Zorin. I am obviously out of my depth with Zorin and Linux so any suggestions would be gratefully accepted. Thank you

Can you please address the questions asked here:

Specifically, are you the person who installed Zorin OS?

I installed it and I set the pass word which I wrote down so I would not forget it but it will not accept my pass word I even tried to change the pass word and it would not let me do that either. The windows support app is the main one I tried and failed to get in to.

Can you open a terminal and run id? Just copy and paste the results in here.

To run a command as administrator (user "root"), use "sudo ".
See "man sudo_root" for details.

This is not understandable to me i am obviously out of my comfort zone

You might show a screenshot of your attempt and the result.

In an open terminal, running

id

should not ask for sudo permissions.

We all spend much of our lives outside of our comfort zone. It's a great place to be. It is where we make discoveries, we learn self confidence and stretch ourselves to be more than we were the day before.

I'd like to go back to square one to check the downloaded .iso is not corrupt, but we don't know if that is accessible anymore.
