Seeing how many are dropping X11 lately, I was wondering if Zorin will go down the same path. I really hope that is not the case, because we see here how many users have issues using Wayland that get fixed once they switch to Xorg.
I don't think so. But I think 18 still will be support Xorg/X11, but after that it will be dropped.
But Wayland on Zorin 17 versus the wayland currently is two differently worlds.
Gnome 50 plans to kickoff X11. So, at least then Gnome will not have X11 anymore. And that would affect Zorin, too. But until this will go some Time. It could be a Topic for Zorin 19. But until now the Wayland Implementation is on another Level then now in Zorin 17 with Gnome 43.
I'm also curious to see what might happen, i really hope Zorin isn't porting to something that has so many issues lol
Personally I've never even bothered trying it out due to how many posts about wayland i keep seeing.
That's great to hear! I won't mind Zorin dropping X11 once Wayland is actually stable and doesn't cause issues.
I'm using Solus - Plasma Edition and using Wayland and I haven't encountered any glitches so far. Even gaming on Wayland
Wayland has been another cluster for Linux. If you want more users to switch to Linux, forcing Wayland on them, breaking their OS experiences, is not the way to do it.
Now, that is not to say that Windows 11 has been a clean free experience for Windows users either! When such users want to switch to Linux, they don't want to deal with more of the same however.
Not every operating system user is an IT certified tech. And Zorin OS, is all about making it the easiest transition possible, for Windows users. Wayland, does not achieve that goal.
Wayland is certainly unstable on my laptop with fairly regular whole screen glitches, I switched to Xorg and the system works way better for me with no screen glitching since I swapped over.
