In short, Windows has a persistent identifier for every Windows system, and that identifier is passed to websites and various other online services.
Is there something like this in Zorin OS?
To the best of my knowledge this only relates to Zorin's census that you can opt out of at point of install; this only notify's team Zorin of how many machines are using Zorin but not a tracker.
Tracking can be broken by an end user by not being careful in what applications get installed. For example, using Google Chrome you might as well give all your data away, in much the same way using Microsoft Outlook sells any mentioned product in emails gets sold to third parties.
I have a de-Googled phone from murena, and it is a shame that GNU/Linux Software stores/channels don't have something similar to murena's App Lounge scores on Privacy:
There is no tracking, but you can participate in an anonymous count if you have consented to it.
If you have agreed during the Zorin OS installation that your device to be counted , a UUID (anonymous device identifier to prevent multiple counting) will be created.
The following will then be transmitted anonymously under this UUID:
UUID, number of users, Zorin OS version and eventual an OEM identifier (only if Zorin OS was pre-installed by the OEM)
You can determine whether this count is active by:
systemctl list-timers | grep census
or you can also turn off the counting with:
sudo apt remove zorin-os-census
